Thought For The Day

Daydreaming shapes the future to your own design, the way an architect plans the building of a skyscraper.

I Got Mail!!

I just had to take a break from yardwork to relax and read my postcards! Jenn's card had the beautiful wildflowers of the Blue Ridge Mtns. on it. She and I both live in or near these mountains and there are none like them! Alice sent me a beautiful picture of the capital of Australia.. Canberra. Both ladies added a nice note that made me feel like we have been friends forever. Thanks so much! Hugs to you both

Happy Anniversary

My dear friend over at Rose Cottage and her hubby are celebrating their anniversary today! Stop by and wish her well and read her romantic story of meeting and marrying her soulmate!

Good Morning Sun

Good Morning! It is such a lovely day today! The birds are singing, the sun is shining, the weather is cool and I am loving it! Had baked ham, green beans and potato salad for supper last night and since its hard to cook for only one person I gave my neighbor Fran enough for her supper and her daughter and son in law. So today she is making soup and told me not to fix anything for supper. William will be home tomorrow so I will be able to cook for a few days. I am bad to just fix a sandwich or TV dinner when home alone but sometimes I just have to cook something. Going to try to make bread today if I have time and bake some cookies. Its nice to have cool enough weather to bake again. Its so nice outside that I am going to work outdoors this morning and then work in the bedroom for awhile before baking. Its just a lovely day in the neighborhood.... Hope its lovely in yours too!

Childhood Cancer

September is Childhood Cancer Month. If you can't donate you can pray. Say a prayer for all the children having to battle for their life each day. Pray for the families who have to see their children go thru such painful rough times. Pray for the families that have lost their child and can no longet tuck them in at night or hug and kiss them. Cancer will be beat one day... Lets pray its very soon. Too many children have been caught in its ugly web.

Watch Animals in Africa

Self Portrait Tuesday

Well, all the good ideals of self portrait Tuesday were taken so I borrowed from Kali and changed it a little. I looked in the mirror but kept the camera in front of my face. Gosh I have no ideal what I can do next week.... When is this thing over????? LOL

Someone had ask me why I burn my leaves and I am just now getting around to answering them. We have tons and I really me tons of leaves on our property. We hadn't lived here in 3 years and the leaves had piled up so bad that the grass was dead. We have a mulch pile and a compost pile but I have to burn a lot of the leaves to keep them off the grass so it won't die. I have just now gotten the leaves off the ground to where our grass started coming back and looking nice. Our whole property is covered in big old oak trees, pine trees, and dogwoods. Its like we have a big canopy over our property so that means we have leaves. Lots of leaves! William mulches some for me to use around plants and flowers and we put some in the compost pile but we really have way too many to use so I burn some or try to. Molly has gotten to where she runs and rolls in the piles while I am raking so they get scattered and I have to rake them back into a pile. She is just like a kid sometimes.
I was also asked if Brandy was receiving her postcards and she is. She is loving all the postcards so far and has some nice vintage ones she is going to be mailing out to everyone soon. I still haven't gotten her talked into blogging yet.
Here is a picture of the pressed tin pitcher and drinking cups I purchased for $2.50 and the perfume bottle I purchased for a friend for Christmas for only $2.00!

I Got Mail!

On walking to the mailbox today I was delighted to find a postcard from Angelina! She and I are neighbors in a way. She lives in SC and I live in NC and we are only a few hours apart. Thanks Angelina! I even received a package with syrup from a friend in Canada.... I just love going to the mailbox these days!

After a busy but nice weekend it is good to be back home. Didn't get as much packed as I wanted but we are giving ourselves til the end of October to get everything out and clean the carpets, etc. William wanted to go to an auction Saturday morning so we took off. It was lots of tools and men items so I left him there and went checking out my favorite place:Main Street Antiques. I always love going there and now they have 2 building side by side that I can browse thru. I picked up a child's little metal iron. I had been looking for one to go with the little vintage ironing board I got during the summer. I will give it to one of the granddaughters when I find some little vintage clothes for her to iron. I found a nice pressed tin pitcher and 4 matching drinking cups in great shape. I plan on giving those to one of my daughters. I enjoyed looking at all the "new" items they have added since my last visit and I enjoyed talking with Johnny (the dad). He always has lots of news from around town to catch me up on. I also visited 2 thrift stores and picked up a game and steak plates that will also be given away. Our family Christmas theme this year is homemade or second hand. So I am at least getting started on my list and having fun doing it. William left for MO. Sunday morning and I called Sharon and we set out for the flea market. We both picked up some nice little items and spent the morning looking. After taking her home I went back to clean and pack. I have my van loaded and need to unpack everything. I brought the rug and pictures for our bedroom so that will be my project this week. Paint our room and get everything on the walls so we can bring our bedroom furniture down. Molly rode with me and behaved herself. She would bark when she needed to go out and bark when she wanted to come back in. She enjoyed playing with Sharon's dog "Taz" and she enjoyed being around William again. She was as happy as I was to get back home though. I have enjoyed catching up on everyone's blog and weekend. Was glad to hear my friends didn't get any damage from Hurricane Rita. I know she left alot of damage behind her but it didn't get as bad as we first thought. I have been in contact with friends in her path and they are all fine and have their power back on. They all have clean up to do but are happy that's all they have to put up with. Hope everyone is having a good Monday..

I Got Mail

I got another postcard!!! My niece Brandy sent me a lovely card that she picked up on her trip to Los Angeles, CA. That is one of very few states I haven't went to yet. Brandy wrote a nice note and even told me about some lovely vintage postcards she has purchased at a great deal she is sending everyone next... So watch your mailbox. Thanks Brandy and will chat with you tomorrow. Hugs! I just love going to the mailbox everyday now thanks to Ms. Robyn. If you were here Ms. Robyn I would dance a jig for you. LOL

Have made some veggie soup in the crockpot and left it simmering.Trying to get Whiskers to come back in the house. He has decided he doesn't like Molly after spending almost a week with her. He sits under the magnolia tree and cries. Want to make some sourdough bread later today if I get all my projects done. Yesterday I seemed to flit from one thing to another so today I have a list and am going to stick to it or at least try to. Its suppose to be 90 degrees here for the first day of fall.... Mother nature has a sick sense of humor. Hope everyone in the path of hurricane Rita is safely out of the way. Prayers going out that it will weaken before hitting land and that it will not take a life.
Happy First Day of Fall Everyone!

Thursday Thought For The Day

Living in harmony with nature's seasons awakens us to spring's renewal, fall's cozy slowness, winter's savory rest, and summer's exuberance. Honor each season's energies for the wisdom they hold.

After raking the yard and doing a few household chores I decided to work on some of my Christmas projects. One of them required me to sew a small item and that required me to thread a needle.... People I am really getting old as I couldn't see the eye of the needle no matter how many pairs of glasses I tried (yes, like Fred Sanford I have a drawer full). So for the first time in my life I used the little metal threader that came with my needles... Worked the first time! Still wish I had my eyesight back.

I Got Mail!!

Dancing all the way from the mailbox! Wendy sent me the most beautiful vintage cards. Not 1 but 2 and one is dated 1932! She went into her own personal collection to share. Wendy I absolutely love them!!! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

We had a very bad storm last night and now my yard is covered in leaves. I had been so faithful about keeping them raked and burnt but can't tell it now. It has been so hot we have broken the heat record 2 days in a row for this time of year. That is what caused the bad storm last night. The lightening came so fast it was like daylight outside. The thunder was continuous. I loved it (except when the lightening was too close) but Molly really became a lap dog. I couldn't move from the sofa until the storm passed because she was sitting on me. Molly must have felt secure on my lap cause she went to sleep with her head on my shoulder, drooling and snoring. So this morning I am going to finish up my household tasks and after lunch I am going to rake up all the leaves (again) and get my yard neat for now anyways. I know with all the trees we have its a never ending job. Go have another cup of coffee/tea, tidy your house, do something to make someone else smile and then do something to make you smile! Have a great day.

Helloooooooo Ms. Jeanne...... where are you? I have worked all day getting my friends list back up but I can't find your wonderful site in my history. I really really want to add it back to my list as its one of my favorite places to visit. So if you see me waving at you would you please stop by and leave me the site address or email me? Waving bye now... LOL

Yahoooooooo I got mail! In the mailbox today I had a beautiful postcard from Robyn. The picture is of the Mudgee Post Office, Wine Glasses and the prettiest cows! Thank you Ms. Robyn and I love the note on back with that lovely penmanship!

Thought For The Day

Memory is a resource to be called upon so that roses can be smelled in the winter, hearth-side smoke can be smelled in the summer, and faces no longer visible can be seen again.

Self Portrait Tuesday

I had a nice blog all typed and when I clicked spell check I lost almost everything on my blog site! I had no links or color in my template... Go figure. So I have spent most of the night trying to fix everything. If I forgot to add your blog link don't worry. I will get to it tomorrow or rather later today as its almost 1:30 in the morning here. Anyway since I am tired I am posting a picture of William and I taken 3 years ago. Yes, the tiger is real and yes it let me pet it. He is retired from the circus and was letting people have their picture taken with him before he headed to his retirement home in Florida. I don't usually post pictures of myself so look quick as I may delete it when I get a little sleep!

Thought For The Day

It's amazing how effective housework can be at banishing the blues. It provides you with a more pleasant place in which to be cheerful.

Seaside... That was the theme and I have just finished my first collage (sorry you were my first Kali) and have it ready to go out in tomorrows post. What is so funny is when Ms. Robyn gave us the name of the first person to get a collage it was the one I had been working on for days! I have never tried this before and was worried about making it nice for such nice ladies. I finally got it to a point that it didn't look too badly and even stuck a picture from 1971 of myself and first hubby on our honeymoon at Myrtle Beach. Hope Kali is still blogging with me after she receives it! I am not a crafty person but hopefully some of the talent from you ladies will rub off on me. Kali enjoy your week of collages and thanks Robyn for this nice swap ideal and putting it all together for us.

I Got Mail!!

Ms. Dolly, the QUEEN of Blogland sent me a beautiful picture of the Opera House in Sidney. (which will be only 20 minutes away from her new home soon) Thank you so much Ms. Dolly for the postcard and sweet note. You made washday a little more exciting!

I am actually glad it is Monday! William came home Thursday and didn't have to go back out til today. He had several projects he wanted to get done and needed my help. I had to drive to the mountains Saturday afternoon for a birthday cookout that night for my grandsons; Quintin (8) and Justin (4). Am so glad my daughters got together so I only had to make one trip. We had a nice time and I enjoyed playing with the grandchildren. Spent the night with Megan and left early Sunday morning driving back so I could help William finish his projects. We also had a dog that was wondering the neighborhood for several days. On Thursday I was washing dishes when something cold touched my leg... It was the dog. She had came inside and looked at me with those big sad eyes. I took her out on the deck and gave her a bowl of dog food which she ate in a matter of seconds. I gave her a second bowl and some nice cold water. I sat down and watched her. After she ate and drank she decided that she was a lap dog. Now we are talking 40 lb lab type dog here. She proceeded to climb up in my lap and try to lay down. I had to laugh as it was a funny sight. She has attached herself to me and wherever I go she goes. She lays on the floor by my feet in the house and walks beside me when I am outside. While I was gone to the mountains William said she followed him around but kept looking for me. We named her Molly and gave her a bath that she loved very much. We think she was set out. We live down a long dirt lane and have always had a problem with people driving part way down and setting animals out. This is a military town so it happens way to often when soldiers get deployed. Anyway we checked at the little store down the road where everyone posts lost or found animals. We ask our neighbors and they all said she had been walking around the neighborhood for days and they had run her off. So I guess we now have another dog to add to our animal kingdom. Molly has decided to take me under her wing and even sleeps on the foot of my bed at night. Now if I could only convince her she isn't a lap dog!

Thought For The Day

More Mail!

I got a beautiful card from Melissa. The picture is of downtown Memphis (a place I have been several times and love!) and a nice friendly note written on the back. Feels like we have been friends forever! Thank You Mellissa!
