Norman the GNOME Needs a Vacation

Norman has been stuck inside the house for months, wanting for spring so he can go back out in the garden. Each time I walk by Norman he looks so sad that I got to thinking.... (oh no!) I want to send Norman on a vacation! Since he is only 7 inches tall and weighs less than half a pound he can go through regular mail. I am going to send along a small journal for his hosts to write in about his stay with them. I would also like for anyone that hosts to show a photo of Norman enjoying the stay at their home on their blog or email photo to me and I will post it. Anyone interested in hosting Norman for a few days and then sending him on to his next destination leave a comment and I will get in touch with you to get your mailing address. When I have enough I will make a list and enclose it with Norman and send him on his way. I will post his schedule so we will know where he is and can check that blog to read how things are going and what he is up to. He will be the perfect house guest as he only eats magical fairy food and carries that with him and he is very quiet and doesn't snore at all! Norman is waiting to hear where his first stop will be and is hoping its with you!!!!
Yesterday was so warm (66 F) so I was outside a lot. Today we are at 50 F and very windy so I will work inside. This back and forth by mother nature is getting tiring. William and I have went through all 8 seed catalogs and have our orders ready. I am mailing them today and looking forward to spring planting. I have boxes and bags piled in my diningroom that I can hardly walk. Guess I should get busy and unpack and put away. I haven't unloaded my antique vanity from the van yet and I have such great plans on where to set it and what to display on it. Talked with Sharon and Wayne had a good day at school yesterday. It was his first day back after his mom's death. He seems to be handling things okay and still crying some which is good for him. While Wayne is at school they are going to go start cleaning out Waynes old house. They all have a tough road ahead. William is on his way to PA. After being home over a week. So slowly things are getting back to normal here. Had a anxious time last night with my elderly neighbor Fran but will post that story later as its strange but waiting for doctors report so I can give a good ending to the story. Everyone enjoy your weather, enjoy your garden or enjoy planning your garden, enjoy a nice cup of tea, enjoy your loved ones and most of all enjoy all the blessing of the day!

He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and be that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much. Luke 16:10

Isn't it pleasant to think that in all those little things He is watching over you, and that you make Him glad when you do them well?

Wow! I just found out that Oreo's mom nominated me for best Religious Blog for January. Thanks Heather and Oreo, I feel honored. If you would like to vote for me, Oreo and any other blogs in other categories go to: http://blogginoutloud.blogspot.com/ and cast a vote or 2 or 3.
This morning I have been unloading the van and setting out the plants I brought back from our house in Lexington. William and I dug up some of my favorites so I could bring them here. Having a nice warm day with a chance of rain seemed to be the perfect time to set them out. The cats and dogs are happy I am home and enjoying the attention and treats. I have so much to unpack and put away and things I need to move around to make room for that its going to be a busy day. I am very blessed to have a home, garden, pets, and things to do. This whole month has been filled accidents and deaths that has me realizing how short life is and how it shouldn't be taken for granted. Go enjoy your home, garden, pets and most of all enjoy your family and count your blessings! Today's thought for the day and scripture:

I can do all things through Christ which strengthen me. Philippians 4:13

I don't know whether it will work or not; and what is more, I never shall know until I try. There has many a thing been accomplished in this world that never would have been, had people settled it in their minds that it couldn't be done before they had made vigorous efforts to do it.

Back Home

Have just returned home and wanted to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers. It has been a long week! Last Sunday we got a call that William's son's ex-wife had passed away. She and Ray ( my stepson) had a 11 year old son. Ray and his wife Sharon were on the road (over the road trucker) and had to head back to Lexington and we headed up there. They stayed with us in our house there with Ray's son Wayne. Had the wake and funeral and then started working on clearing out our home there so Ray and Sharon could move in and make a home for Wayne. They have given up truckdriving so they can be home everyday to make a home for Wayne. It has been a stressful week for everyone but things are starting to settle down a little. Ray and Sharon have to finish moving some things of ours out of the house and get their things out of storage plus close down Wayne's mother's house so please keep them in your prayers. Ray is going to start his own business along with doing some projects for us and Sharon is going to find a job so they can have insurance. It will be nice to have someone in the house there so I don't have to worry about it but will take a lot of work trying to get things fixed here to bring the rest of our items down. Won't be on very long at a time but will check in each day and read a few blogs each day. Thanks again for the prayers and thoughts! Hugs

Thank You

Thank you everyone for the kind words and prayers for my daughter and children. They are all doing well now. Even the soreness has gone away. We know they had a guardian angel watching over them. I always say a prayer when I start out on the road for my guardian angel to watch over me and not let harm come to me or anyone else by my actions. Thank you so much for the beautiful ecard Perri! It came at the right time this morning. I can feel your and others prayers and know they will help the next few days be less rocky and stressful. Here is my scripture and thought for the day:
He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: He that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, He that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand. Psalm 121:3
Is it so strange a thing the the Lord can keep his own?

When the grandkids and I were outside their last day here a redheaded woodpecker flew up and sat in a tree and started making noises like it was talking to us. I told the kids about the woodpecker that came to mothers house after she died and I thought it was her helping me make decisions about closing her house. So they said hi to "nannie" and we went to the front yard. The woodpecker flew to the front yard and sat in a small dogwood watching us and "talking". When I took its picture it flew right over the kids head and went back into the woods. I think mother just came to visit her great grandchildren.

DSL is UP and RUNNING!!!!

I am one happy camper today!! Took about 30 minutes over the phone with someone that had a hard to understand accent but DSL is back!!!! Never knew how much I took it for granted till I was stuck with dial-up. Now I can read other blogs without waiting 5 minutes or getting disconnected. Sure have missed everyone's blogs.

On a different note... When I met my daughter half way so she could pick up the grandchildren she was telling me how bad it was raining back her way. We talked for a few minutes and I left. She only got about an hour back her way when it started raining hard and her wiper stuck. She pulled over to fix it and when she pulled back onto the interstate a semi changed lanes and hit her. Totaled her vehicle but she and the children are fine. She called 911 on her cell twice and it still took 2 hours before the highway patrol arrived. Seems they only had 2 in that area. The semi driver didn't even come over to see if she and the children were okay. She talked with me and Joseph on the phone till someone got there and Joseph drove 3 hours to pick them up. He went back the next day to tow the vehicle home. She was so calm talking to me on the phone I thought she was joking and fussed at her. After it was all over she broke down but is doing fine now though all are a little sore. Allstate insurance has been wonderful with her and breezed through the paperwork for her. We thank God so much for protecting them and keeping them from harm. The kids are back in school and already planning a trip back here in the summer and want their cousins to join them for a week of fun. I told William he would have to take a week off and help with the 9 grandkids cause I'm not as young as I use to be! I am glad they had fun, especially Woody as he doesn't go outside very much. Thinks he is getting to old to play so stays in his room reading, playing games or doing homework. He only played his x book a couple times while here and was outside most of the time. He said he loved it cause our land is flat. (he lives on the side of a mountain.) Anyway Melody and the kids are fine, DSL is up and running, the sun is shining after our major windstorm, its spring weather again, the birds are singing and I have lots to do. Have a great day and count your blessings!!

Taking A Break

Still stuck with this dial-up and I hate it! DSL was out in a large area for 2 days and now everyone is back up and running but my little neighborhood. It takes so long to download with dial-up and to go from one site to the next that I am going to take a break from the computer till DSL is back up.Just wanted to let everyone know I haven't abandoned my blog and will be back hopefully very very soon. Will leave you with my scripture verse and thought for the day:

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. Psalm 119:105
There is no place on the road so dark but that the Bible can light you through, if you try it. When you don't understand it, there is always Jesus to go to, you know.

Last Night at Grandma's

The kids worked so hard all day helping me rake, stack wood, burn leaves, clean the tool shed so when they said they wanted to sleep in their cabin tonight and cook outdoors I agreed. ( also knew when it got cold they would be running back inside) They cooked soup over their fire, had sandwiches, chips and doughnuts. They sat around their fire and told ghost stories... Then were back in the house taking showers and watching movies by 8:30! Zack and Julie had been fussing with each other while here so I tied them together with a small rope by their wrists. I gave them enough rope to be able to move around but they had to stay tied all day long and if they argued or said something mean to the other I popped their behind. They worked well together raking and stacking and even talked nice to each other. I let them untie their selves at suppertime. Took them awhile to learn how to compromise when one wanted to go one way and the other didn't. Tomorrow we pack up and head them back to the mountains. Yes it is suppose to be winter here but its been so warm the kids have played outside with only teeshirts most days. Hopefully by the time I get back I will have DSL again. It takes about 5 minutes to download a picture on dial up and it drives me crazy!!!

Individual Pizza's

The kids wanted pizza's but they each wanted something different on them so here is my recipe for individual pizza's:
english muffins (split in two)
Pizza sauce
several kinds of shredded cheeses
pepperoni slices
cooked and crumbled sausage
diced ham
chopped onions and peppers

Put the muffin slices on a baking sheet. Let the kids put their own ingredients on them... Pop them into the oven for 5 to 10 minutes on 350.... Supper is served!

Is It Bedtime Yet??

Today was baseball, football, hide and seek, cops and robbers, freeze tag, walk the dogs and then make homemade individual pizza's and watch movies. This old gray mare ain't what she use to be and is worn out! Anyone want to do 3 loads of laundry for me? I did make a loaf of honey wheat bread and 2 sourdough loaves. I will post honey wheat recipe tomorrow... Its real easy and taste yummy and not dry. Tomorrow I have promises of helping me do yardwork but I will have to wait and see if work wins out over playtime. Tuesday will have me driving 2 1/2 hours to meet their parents so they can go back home. Will enjoy the rest and quiet but will miss having them around. Easter break will find the last 2 of the grandchildren spending a week here. (Kristine and Raigun). Then it will be summer before any come back for a visit.

Gone to the Dogs

The dogs sure are going to miss the kids! Twice a day they have been taken on 3/4 mile walk and they love it. Plus the doggie treat basket is getting low for some reason. Even though its suppose to be winter here the kids have been able to play outside without jackets most days and love it. They are sad that back home there is 3 inches of snow and their cousins are sleding . Still haven't gotten my DSL back and I am going crazy using this dial-up. Hopefully tomorrow they will get our neighborhood back up and running. Have a great day and will leave you with my scripture verse and thought for the day.
All that the Lord hath said we will do, and be obedient. Exodus 24:7
The heart must understand that whenever the Lord directs it intends to do, or there is no opening of the door for Him.

Another Day on the Homestead

What started out as "chinking" the cabin turned into a mud fight and then a mud slide. Guess their cabin walls will have to wait another day. You would think the girls would be the ones inside staying clean... NOT! The boys stayed clean all day and grandma is still soaking mudstained clothes.

Bonnie Marie Weatherman
November 28,1923 January 14,2005
Can't believe a year has past since we said goodbye to you. I can still feel your hand against my cheek and see your eyes as you are looking at the angels that came to take you home. I can still feel the hurt and emptyness that I didn't think I would feel as I watched you take your last breath. I can still feel the love you gave me each day no matter what I did or said. I still feel blessed that you were my mother and helped shape me into the person I am today. I still thank God each night for letting me share every day of the last month of your life with you. I still remember the last talk you and I had. I still feel your presence because you promised you would be watching over me. I am so blessed to have all these feelings and memories but I would give anything to hear you say "I love you" one last time. I love and miss you Mother, always and forever.

NAIS

I was going to write a post about NAIS but after reading what the Jefferies have written about it, I just copied and pasted their post. They have ask everyone to write your senators and congressmen and I am asking you too to do whatever you can to help end this senseless s ID system before they decide to use it on humans. Please if everyone wrote just one letter, email or made one phone call we would make a difference. Thanks for reading this. You can also go over to:Sugar Mountain Farm for any questions. This is a wonderful site filled with beautiful pictures and lots of knowledge!
Do you know about the National Animal Identification System (NAIS) that the government is working on implementing? NAIS is a system that the USDA is proposing to identify all livestock in the United States and also identify all premises (locations with any livestock). This includes all birds, sheep, cows, pigs, horses, llamas and many other animals. The stated goal is to be able to have 48 hour trace back of all meats from the consumer to the farm where the animal originated incase of illness or contamination. That sounds all well and good except that:1) They are including livestock sold directly from small farms to the end consumer where there is already 100% track back in much less than 48 hours. If you buy locally from the source you know exactly where your food came from.2) They are snaring homesteaders by including even livestock you might keep for your own consumption. The government is implementing huge "non-compliance" fines if you don't report your backyard flock of chickens, your summer feeder pig, your lawn mowing sheep, etc. This will take away your right to raise your own source of eggs, meat and wool.3) They are including animals that are not in the food supply such as pets like horses, llamas, etc that are not intended for consumption.Under the plan every single animal must be identified. Any births, deaths and movements on or off the farm will be required to be logged and reported to the government. If you take your sheep to a show you will have to track their location and submit paperwork to the government. If you go for a trail ride with your horse you will have to report that to the government. If your pig has piglets you'll have to report that and then if some of those piglets die or you eat one you'll have to report that.Pretty soon after that the government is going to want to charge a consumption tax every time you eat one of your own animals. After all, unless you buy all your food then you're not paying sales tax, you're not helping the Gross Domestic Product grow, you're not paying your share. You think I'm joking? You are required by law to pay taxes on any barters you do. It is only a tiny step from that law and NAIS to a tax on every chicken, every egg, every pig, every sheep, etc. Then they'll go for your tomatoes and carrots. (No, I am definitely not paranoid enough.)All this identification, tattooing, labeling, tagging, micro-chipping, RFID equipment and paper work is going to cost money. Who do you think is going to pay? You! That's who. NAIS will increase the cost of food both to those who raise it and for consumers at the farmer's market and at the supermarket. This is going to require more government bureaucracy to manage which will eventually lead to more fees and taxes collected by the government to manage a system tracking your life and making it ever more expensive.Under the plan the government requires you to track the animal movements as well as your premise location (your home) with GPS and address coordinates. All animal locations and movements must be logged and reported under penalty of confiscation and fines. Furthermore the USDA will not guarantee to keep the information confidential because of the Freedom of Information Act. This means that radical animal rights groups (like E-ll-F and Pee.Ee.Tee.Ah a.k.a. Pet-ah) will be able to find out exactly where you live and precisely what you have for animals. These terrorist groups have already attacked farms and destroyed property killing people and animals. Now they'll have even more data to use figuring out who to target. Lovely. Will this give us any better security? No. Almost all of the cases of food born illness and recalls are caused by contamination at the slaughter house, packing plant and further along the chain of supply. Perhaps this sort of thing is a good idea on the large scale producers, the factory farms, the big slaughter houses. It is not needed in our back yards and homesteads. It is not necessary for small farms selling direct to the consumer or other end users. It is certainly beyond reason for non-food pets.Virtually all of the remaining cases of food born illness like Mad Cow and the like are the product of bad practices like feeding animals back to their own species and over crowding. These are problems that are not related to the small farms, the homesteaders and the backyard flocks. NAIS won't solve these problems. Furthermore, Mad Cow, to take the government's favorite scarecrow, is something that takes years to decades to infect. A 48 hour trace back is going to do diddley-squat.At the very least NAIS should allow exemptions for pets, homesteaders, backyard flocks and small farms that sell direct to the end user. These groups already have better than 48 hour track back and are not the threat. The threat is big agri-businesses, "factory farms" that lock millions of animals in cages and generate ideal conditions for disease to run wild through animals with suppressed immune systems and antibiotics in their feed. These are the corporations that grind up cows and feed them back to the cows. They are the ones that routinely feed antibiotics to their livestock producing new strains of drug resistant super-germs. They are the ones generating enormous mountains of waste and pollution the taints the air and the water. They are the problem. If they are so gung-ho for NAIS then let them implement it for themselves. NAIS will lead to more centralization of our food supply and bigger government. The big corporations that already control too much of our food supply will control even more of it. More control over the system of production by fewer corporations and individuals is a threat to our nation. This is the last thing we need. What we need is decentralized local production to ensure the safety of our food supply. If all our food comes from a few sources then it is in great danger for everyone. If our food comes from many small localized farms then we have greater national food security. NAIS is exactly the wrong answer. It is not too late to fight this nonsense. There are several groups* working to fight it. Join with them (Oklahomans Against NAIS, FreeTennesee, StopAnimalID, Americans Against NAIS). Sign the petition against NAIS. Write the USDA. Write your local newspapers. Write your state representatives. Write your congressional critters in the House and Senate. Let them know how you feel about this. If you don't speak up now you may lose one more right to privacy as big government gets bigger and reaches its hand deeper into your life and your pocket book. NAIS is a big government, big corporation answer to a question they don't even understand.
Oh no Ms Maggie the grandchildren don't live close-by.... they live 5 hours away. We made arrangments to meet halfway. We are still having a great time though I am tired. They are older than the other two that stayed a week so I am having to find more things to do to keep them from being bored. We are walking the dogs, raking leaves, stacking wood, playing football, playing baseball and watching lots of movies. I have no ideal how to play their video games so they're on their own with those. Each one picked a menu for a supper meal and I was surprised at their choices. Last night was tomato soup and grill cheeses. Tonight is fried chicken. Hope everyone is having a wonderful day and here is my scripture verse and thought for the day. Can't stay online long as DSL is down for a few hours and I am having to use dail-up. I have lots of pictures but they will have to wait till DSL is back up and running.Happy Friday the 13th! I also have an important post I promised my friends at Sugar Mountain Farms I would write. Hopefully things will be back to normal soon.
For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory forever. Romans 11:36
Although the Lord is gracious and forbearing, and kindly gives me the work to do here and there for Him. He can, whne He chooses, get along entirely without any help.

4 Reasons I am Late Blogging

My middle daughter Melody called to ask if I could watch 4 of her 5 since they were having a school break. Justine is still in Daycare so he didn't come. Woody, Hope,Zack and Julie will be here with dear old grandma till Tuesday. Hopefully I will survive and hopefully they will go home in one piece! Here is scripture verse and thought for the day:
Commit thy way unto the Lord, trust also in him and he shall bring it to pass. Psalm 37:5
I know people who suppose it would be almost irreverent to take their domestic bewilderments to Christ. I cannot think what kind of a friend they imagine Him to be, if they are afraid to go to Him with everything.

I Have Been Tagged

Fireflies and Frogs tagged me (thought I was sneaking by on this one) So here are 5 Weird Things about me, like all of you really needed to know anymore weird stuff !
1. Everytime I have to drive a long distance I say a prayer for a safe uneventful trip to God, my guardian angel and my dad. Am always afraid I will wreck and hurt someone else.
2. I love seafood but will not eat shrimp because of the sound it makes when I bite into it.
3.Sometimes my cat Dimples looks at me or does something that makes me ask her what relative was she in life and why did she come back as a cat.
4.I can't sleep good if there are dirty dishes in the sink or the house is messy
5. I talk to my daddy almost everyday and he has been dead since 1999 and I keep a white butterfly in the van that represents him and think he watches over me.

Now that you know even more weird things about me I think we should know 5 weird things about:
Finn, Maggie, Dolly, Jeanne, and Brandy!!! Anyone else want to be brave leave me a comment and I will check it out!

Day At The Homestead

Squirrel is robbing one of the bird feeders. Whiskers is wanting something besides dry food.

Lady and Tramp are wanting their daily treat and Dimples is mad cause I petted Whiskers first. Life is always fun here at the homestead!

Here are some of the things going on around here on this sunny warm day. So nice I had the doors open all day and felt like spring. Enjoy your home, enjoy your weather, enjoy nature, enjoy the many blessings we are given each day!

Scripture and Thought for the Day

For He knoweth the secrets of the heart Psalm 44:21

We grieve sometimes that we cannot know people's hearts, and foresee what would please, and what would irritate. Hearts calm down wonderfully sometimes; what need then to know of their depths while at boiling point? But what sights must the all-seeing God look down upon! Sights in tenderness shut away from the gaze of His weak children.

Sourdough Bread Recipe

Here is the recipe for sourdough bread using the starter:
1/2 cup oil 1 cup Sour Dough Starter
1/3 cup sugar 1 TBS. salt
1 1/2 cup warm water
6 cup bread flour
In a large bowl, make a stiff batter of all ingredients. Grease another bowl, put dough in and turn over (put oily side on top) Cover lightly and let stand till double in size. (I usually let mine sit overnight) Next, punch down, knead a little. Divide into 2 parts and knead on floured board. Put into greased loaf pans and brush with butter. Let rise 4 to 5 hours (all day is ok) Dough rises very slowly. Cover lightly while rising. Bake in 350 degree over for 30-40 minutes. Remove and brush with butter again. Cool on rack, wrap well and store in refrigerator. This bread can be frozen as it still tastes great.

Today is an outside day so I will leave you with the recipe and my scripture and thought for the day:
For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. 2 Chronicles 16:19
What a fearful world it would be if things just happened with nobody to manage or control!
Enjoy the recipe, enjoy your day, enjoy your family and friends, enjoy your work and crafts, enjoy a nice cup of tea and enjoy your blessings!

My Little Corner

Amanda showed her favorite corner of her home and ask others to do the same.
Kali has a beautiful picture of her favorite corner of the home. My favorite corner is in the sitting room. I enjoy sitting in the love seat by a corner table where I keep my catalogs and devotion book. I have a basket under the table that holds my favorite books and magazines. I sit here every morning to read my devotion and write in my prayer/blessing book. I also sit here every evening to read, plan, relax, watch TV and enjoy a cup of tea. Its a nice relaxing place as I can enjoy looking out the window or just enjoy the peace and quiet. Whenever anyone is here we are usually gathered around the dining room table or on the stools around the kitchen counter. Haven't figured out why the kitchen is the meeting place but I am glad I have my quiet corner. Where is yours?

Sourdough Starter Recipe

Several have ask me to post the sourdough recipe. I had posted awhile back but this time I am posting the sourdough starter first and will post the bread recipe tomorrow so that it will be easier for you to follow. Its very easy and very tasty... enjoy

Sourdough Starter
1 medium potato
1 pkg. dry yeast
1 tablespoon sugar
Peel the potato and boil in enough water to cover until soft. Drain off the water and reserve. Mash the potato thoroughly. Add enough water to the reserved potato water to make 2 cups lukewarm liquid. Dissolve the yeast in the liquid. Stir in the mashed potato and sugar. Let this mixture stand in a glass or crockery container, loosely covered, for 2 days or more, stirring occasionally. The starter should be refrigerated at this stage and should be fed every 3 to 5 days with feeder mix.

Feeder Mix
3/4 cup sugar
3 tablespoons instant potatoes
1 cup warm water
Mix all this into the starter and let this sit for 8 to 10 hours and either give away a cup or use one cup of starter to make sourdough bread.

Yesterday was very cold, today is very warm.. whats up Mother Nature? This is the type of weather that gives us colds. Yesterday I sat by the fire and enjoyed my seed catalogs and watched the birds. Today I am going outside and enjoying this warm weather by taking the dogs for a walk and filling the bird feeders and doing some yardwork. 65 degrees is too nice to stay indoors. I want to walk around and plan where to put our raised garden beds and where I want different things planted. William is on his way home from Canada so I need to work on my "honey do" list for him and I am sure he is working on one for me. So many things we need to get done around here and so many things we still have to do at the old place. We are blessed we are able to do these things and even enjoy the hard work. Enjoy your day, Enjoy your pets, Enjoy the birds (don't forget to feed them), Enjoy your weather, Enjoy making plans and Enjoy your Blessings! Here is my scripture verse and thought for the day:
He knoweth thy walking through this great wilderness. Deuteronomy 2:7
The Lord knows the end from the beginning and nothing is surer than that He uses His children to carry out His plans.

Nice hot slice of sourdough bread with honey butter... Yummy yummy. I even had to have a second slice with blackberry jam. I just love baking bread. Am going to bake honey whole wheat one day soon and try a cookie recipe of Maggie's. It was 25 degrees last night and only 35 right now so I am enjoying the fire and my nice cup of golden vanilla hazelnut latte tea. The sun is shining and the birds are giving me entertainment at the feeders. Enjoy a favorite meal, enjoy a new recipe, enjoy your weather, and enjoy a nice cuppa tea! Here is my bible verse and thought for the day:
Then he said unto the man,Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it forth, and it was restored whole, like as the other. Matthew 12:13
Mine is the doing when He says the word, but His is the bringing to pass. And that, you see, is the end of all worrying and planning and doubt. There is no rest nor comfort outside of that conclusion.

Sour Dough Bread

Was all ready for bed when I realized I needed to feed my starter. When I feed the starter I have to remove a cup of it to make bread. So I took my cup of sourdough starter and now I have the dough rising so I can bake 2 loaves of sourdough bread in the morning. Wanna come over for fresh bread for breakfast?

Collage's

I finally got all the beautiful collage's from my collage swap friends hung. The wall looks perfect now that I have something from my friends. Thank each of you and I love them all. Everytime I walk by I can think of all the time and talent spent on each just for me. Hugs!!!

My wall of unknown. These are pictures of people I don't even know found in auction boxes, given to me, found at thrift stores, etc. I just thought they needed a home so they are now my unknown family. I love looking at the pictures and making up stories about their lives. Today our cold weather has come in. We didn't get snow but several counties around us did. I have a nice fire going with the tea kettle on. I am going to clean the book shelves today. I need to sort out and get rid of some books as they are overtaking the house. I love books and hate to part with any but will keep my favorites and pass the others on to friends, family and even sell some of the how to's on ebay. Enjoy your day, enjoy your home, enjoy your family and friends and then enjoy a cup of tea and a good book! Leave you with my scripture reading and thought for the day:
And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also you are called in one body. Colossians 3:15
Peace with God!! It expresses so much. Peace is greater than joy, or comfort, or rest.

Bon voyage Ms. Robyn

Have a wonderful trip! We will miss you

Today the sun is shining and a cold front is coming through. I have a pot of navy beans on the back of the woodstove simmering, tea kettle is on and I have finished my morning devotions ready to start a new day. Laundry is going and I am cleaning and dusting our bedroom. While just make the guest room extra nice? After I get the room all nice, tidy and smelling fresh I am going to head outside and do some yard work. Will leave you with a verse and thought for the day:
Thou shalt be a crown of glory in the hand of the Lord, and a royal diadem in the hand of thy God. Isaiah 62:3
You take a diamond and throw it down in the dirt and filth, and put your foot on it and grind it in, and leave it there, sinking and soiling, day after day, year after year, and when somebody comes along and picks it out, how much will it gleam for Him at first? Yet the diamond is there.

Why I Blog

Toni over at Simple Sparrow http://simplesparrow.typepad.com/ posted why she blogs and offered us a look at where she enters the blog neighborhood. It got me to thinking of why I blog. Last year my niece Amy started a blog when she married and moved to The Netherlands. I loved keeping up with her news and pictures and thought what a fun way for our family to keep up with each others day to day life. I started my blog which at the time was called Peggy's Page then I got daughter Megan started blogging and Maggie and Melody followed. Now that the 3 of them live real close to each other again they don't blog. Amy has moved to Minnesota but still keeps her blog up and when we decided to move back to our old in need of lots of repairs home I changed my blog to Hidden Haven Homestead. William and I both are into going back to the simple life as much as we can so I thought it would be neat to write about life as we repair, clean up and start our new life. Then I started reading other blogs and I found Ms. Robyn's blog and from there found so many wonderful blog neighbors and friends. From each one of you I get so much! I learn a new craft, a new recipe, wonderful scriptures to get me through the day, courage from what you have gone through to know I can get through things too. Found lots of wonderful swaps, had a look into your homes and lives that make me feel like we are real neighbors next door to each other instead of through cyber space. Blogging I can write what's on my mind and know I have friends that have been there or at least understand and give good advice. I can share photos and stories and have wonderful comments and suggestions. I am blessed that I found this blog neighborhood and such a wonderful neighborhood of special friends. Here is where I sit as I enter into our "blog Neighborhood" each day.

Clean House

The guest room is back in order. Fresh linens on the beds (washed in lavender scent), pillows and blankets aired on the line outside all afternoon (the rain stopped) are now back on. Room is dusted and vacuumed. Toys put away in the closet and books back on the shelves. The grandkids made their beds every day and kept things picked up but I love getting the room ready for my next visitor and want it just so so. For a week it was a child's room with play station, baby dolls, books and toys but now its ready for adult or child. I just love the way a room smells after a cleaning and airing. I set a little basket on the nightstand with personal lotion, soap, shampoo, tissues and even little chocolates, all in wait for another house guest. Hope I don't have to wait too long! The rest of the house has been cleaned and the trash has even been hauled off! Got all the bills paid and in the mail, the books are up to date so that will make hubby happy. Today has been a good productive day. Have more sourdough bread rising and am getting ready to have a nice bowl of soup. Think I will enjoy sitting and relaxing this evening. Want to read and watch TV for a little while and think I will turn in early. Anew day tomorrow and the sun is suppose to be shining with warm temps so I hear the outside work calling my name.

After dropping Quintin and Gabby off I spent the night at Melody's house so I could go on to the memorial service for my uncle the next day. With 5 kids its always fun at her house. Woody had a friend over so they stayed in his room alot playing games. He and his friend did come out and sing a silly song for me. Zack had a friend over and they played outside till dark. Zack got his picture taken trying to take a picture of me with his new camera. Justin wasn't home that night and Julie and Hope let me take their picture with their new monkey pj's. We had a nice pizza supper, watched a little tv and got caught up on all the family news. I snuck out the next morning while everyone was sleeping. I enjoyed my short visit and hope I will get a chance to stay longer next time. The service was very nice. Its sad that our family has gotten together so many times this past year for funerals. We hope our reunions in 2006 are just that... a reunion to get together. Spent time visiting with my 2 brothers and then drove 5 hours home. Its been storming all day so I am going to set back and enjoy the fire and the peace and quiet.

Welcome Home Brian!

The kids and I got to their home before Brian and Megan so we rushed to put up the signs we had made along with the ones they had made with Megan. The neighborhood store even welcomed him home! Of course we had to let Charlotte the pig give a little squeal of welcome so she wouldn't feel left out. At the Crawford house all is right with the world.... Daddy is home, mommy impressed Quintin with her cleaning skills and he and Gabby got to give their dad hugs and kisses and their present that they just had to buy at a truck stop on the way home! LOL
WELCOME HOME BRIAN!!!!
