I finally got my hoosier cabinet set up. Sharon and I moved it down here but I hadn't put all my vintage kitchen items in. Last night I got in the mood to unpack the huge box with all the items. The black spot you see in front of the hoosier is an old food scale hanging beside it. What I like about all my vintage items and antiques is I use them. If they survived all the use from the past then I am sure they will survive my use and I enjoy thinking of the homemaker that used the items before me and what her life must have been like.

What awesome items. It's so great to be able to use old items from the past in today's time. I frequently use my great grandmother's gem irons and they've definitely lasted over 100 years.

Oh, it looks like you have a wonderful collection of vintage kitchenalia. I think it is great that you use everything - and I agree with you, what's the point of having things that you are precious about and never use? I even use an old tea set my grandma had as a child, I love drinking tea out of those cups - it feels like I'm connected to her somehow. She is a practical woman too so I know she doesn't mind!

Peggy, what a great collection of vintage kitchen things. Your cubboard is really nice. I think these kind of things do give us a connection with the ladies that went before us. They help bring back good memories anyway. You have a very homey kitchen! I love your pictures and your blog. (you're pretty nice too...grin) hugs from Maggie

Hi, novaks8 told me to come and see you. I have a small collection of old postcards and she said you do too. I am in Raleigh; come and see my blog. We have a few things in common: jazz, James Patterson and antiques. I love your Hoosier Cabinet!!

Lucky you. I love this kind of stuff but I only own one table/desk that is antique. Everything else is as modern as it comes!

My stepmom would love to have some of that stuff. Her entire house is antique. Her stove is over 70 years old. What a great use for the scale!
