Memorial Day

My dad served in the US Navy years before I was even born. He was on a battleship in the pacific when my brother Don was born. He was always making sure we showed respect to all military and their families because he knew what each one gave up to protect each of us. He was proud to be a veteran and was proud of my brothers for their military service. So this Memorial Day I will remember my dad, remember all veterans, remember all military families. I will give thanks for each soldier that is giving up so much to let me enjoy my freedom. I will give thanks for the families of those soldiers that give up having their soldier home with them so I might enjoy my freedom. I will give thanks that my husband, brothers, son in laws and daughter served their country so I might enjoy my freedom but are now safely home. I will pray for the soldiers that didn't make it back home because they were fighting for my freedom. I will pray for their families that had to give up someone precious to them so I might have my freedom. I will remember why we have Memorial Day and I will remember why I have the freedom to celebrate this day. ....... I will remember..... Will you?

Peggy, Yes spring is up with you at the moment isn't it. It is such a lovely time of the year and always reminds me of the new beginning we are given each year! such a humble time and a gift from god.

Your post on the memorial day reminded me of a wonderful trip my husband and I took to your fine country and spending memorial day in washington and how emotional it was and yes! how important it is to remember.......and how important is to never forget. we also remember here in australia those who have given their lives so that we can be who we are today in freedom.

Thank you for visiting my blog

I come from a military family too, and of course living in the Hampton Roads VA. area we are a "military town". It is wonderful to see others reflect on the real meaning of Memorial Day.
Thanks for the nice post.

My son is in the Australian Army so I know what it means to have a loved one serving our country. I pray also for all the other couragious men and women who have lost their lives and the ones who are having a tough time now in all those parts of the world that are in conflict. Thank you for this post Peggy.
