Davie

Updated to say that Davie will not be getting better. He has CAE ( caprine arthritis encephalitis) and there is no cure. He isn't in any pain and is eating and drinking. He can not stand on his legs. They are like rubber and he can't control or put weight on them. He can stay like this for days or weeks and the Vet said it was up to me about putting him down or making him comfortable. I have him on the back porch at night and bring him in the house during the night. I am trying to spend as much time as I can with him. I hold him and feed him his bottle and I cry. I have cried all night and about all day. I feel like I am losing my child. I can't seem to make that decision to put him down. I just am not sure what to do. Thank each of you for your prayers, good thoughts and emails. Keep praying for Davie and that Miss Diva will not get CAE. We can't test her for 10 days and if she does get it the same will happen to her. Thanks again for caring.

Davie has gotten sick. Really sick. He is on antibiotics along with his electrolytes but he isn't doing very well. I know he is only a baby goat but he is part of my little homestead family and is very loved. Some will laugh at my asking to keep a goat in your thoughts and prayers but most of you will understand. So as you go about your day/evening send out good thoughts and prayers for a very special little goat that has stolen my heart.

Hi pleased to meet you but so sorry the first post of yours is about your poor sick goat. I hope he recovers, I will think positive thoughts about him. It so sad when animals are sick, a bit like small children, they can't really tell you what is wrong. I just wanted to say thank you for the lovely comment you left on my blog.

Sometimes animals, who are pets, become part of the family and when they are sick, we feel the same way we would if it was a person. My heart goes out to you Peggy, and my prayers will be with you all. Big HUGS!!!!

I am so sorry to hear about Davey. I am afraid you are going to have to make a decision. If he is suffering then you know what the best decision will be.
I am so sorry. I feel so badly for you. I just wish there was something physically that I could do.

Oh Peggy, I'm so sorry. What horrible news. You will just know what to do and when, just trust yourself. It's so sweet that he was able to be with you for a short time. You have to realize how special you made his little life. He was brought to you for a reason, to take care of and to love, and you have done that. You should be proud of yourself. Hang in there. More prayers for you all during this very hard time with your babies.

Although we've only ever had one pet in the last 40 years - my daughter's rabbit - I can understand how attached you can become to one, Peggy. It will seem like such a shame to you to have Davie put down when he hasn't had time to live a life yet.

If he is not going to get better then I hope and pray for strength and courage for you to make the right decision, and the peace in knowing that he is no longer ill, but frolicking around like a baby goat should do. I also Ms Diva stays fit and well.

My heart is breaking reading about poor Davie and poor you! This is my first time to your blog thanks to Ms Robyn but it won't be my last.
I also have animals that are my life and die a little bit every time I lose one. You are doing everything you can do and while this doesn't help the way you feel it makes your little goat feel better.
I will pray there is some help for him.

Hi Peggy,
I join with everyone else who has posted here to pass on my hugs for you and Davie. Ken and I have cried together over the loss of several of our pets. We sponsor a donkey at a Donkey Shelter nearby, and Adam is often mentioned in the newsletter. Now and then he is on the 'sick list' and cross our fingers that he recovers.
