I was all set to take pictures of the grands holding the baby raccoons at my daughters, pictures of us sitting around the firepit roasting marshmallows for s'mores, pictures of the reunion and beautiful park it was held at.... but I couldn't. I remembered the camera but left the memory card in the computer at home. Just take my word for it. There were lots and lots of picture moments. Today I have been catching up on housework, cleaning all the water buckets, raking the chicken pen, doing some laundry, running Fran to the grocery, and just enjoying the day.

When we disbudded the boys it was our first time. We and all the animals were stressing out. Needless to say their horns are growing and we didn't do a good job. William and I have been talking back and forth about trying it again or calling a Vet to cut them out. I called everywhere and couldn't find a Vet in our area that worked on goats. I finally called the NC Veterinarian School and they will do it! I take Dan and Robyn Thursday and they will put the little fellers asleep and take their horns out. I am so glad they won't have to feel anything and I won't have to stress. My neighbor Jane is going with me as we have to drive to Raleigh but it is so worth it! Then I will be able to get them registered and ready for new homes

My brother gave me some deer meat yesterday. He takes his to a butcher that cuts and prepares it like a cow or pig. I have some deer sausage that taste just like pork but with less fat. I have deer steaks and deer burger that you could not tell if its beef or deer. He gives us deer every year. I love the summer sausage the best. He had to show off though and give me a 10 lb cabbage from his garden. Mine didn't get even half that big. I am cooking a fourth of it today with polish sausage, turnips, onions, in chicken broth for supper.

I miss the grands but I am enjoying the quietness around here. I keep waiting to hear someone yell "grandma". Have a wonderful Sunday and enjoy your blessings.

If we didn't forget or wish we brought something, life would go a lot smoother.

Those vet college does wonderful work.
We took couple of our horses to the one in Pullman Washington, WSU.

With such a large meal, that sounds like cabbage soup, who are you going to feed, a squad of chaps from the military base???

We call such a hearty "stick to your ribs meal, "a skier's special", more an apres ski meal than a summer repas.

Enjoy some rest my friend.

I hate it when I forget my camera or the battery quits, etc. I am sorry you missed your photo moments. I am also glad you had a good time with your grandchildren.

We just stopped by a farm yesterday asking about buying goats! We have so much brush to clean up - they would be perfect for that!! When we processed deer meat, we would always mix it 50/50 with either beef or pork - like you mentioned. It does make a difference, doesn't it? I bet your house is rather quiet now. Sounds like you had a good time, though.

How generous of your brother. I'm glad you don't have to go through the dehorning process again. Enjoy returning to the quiet rhythm of your days on your little homestead.

oh Peggy, I didn't know you were selling the boys *sob, sob* I wish I lived near, I would buy Robyn from you for sure.. I am going to miss seeing him grow up.
Never had deer meat, I am not that adventurous with different kinds of meat - I don't eat kangaroo, crocodile or rabbit either. Beef, chicken and lamb for me!
