My friend has chickens that hatched late summer, around the first of Sept. When will they lay, next spring or later?
Thanks

Sharon, chickens usually start laying around 6 months of age. So around March they should start laying. She can start feeding them cracked corn or laying mash in Feb to bring their body temp up to want to lay.

Peggy,
Nice family you have there! And I'm kicking myself for missing your drawing. I take a little break from blogging and this is what I get. :( Someone will really enjoy your goodies, though.

You ought to write a book!!! =) I missed your drawing. Man, that was a wonderful prize too. Oh well, maybe next time.

I love to watch my chickens go to roost at night. I marvel at their internal clock that motivates them to retire as the light begins to fade. As they snuggle up the sounds of mutted clucks and purrs is like they are bidding good night to one another. It is such a calming sound.

That is my all-time favorite kid's books. How sweet they all look preparing for bed. xo

Peggy, You sound like me telling all of the Family { birds } good night..My Sun Conure repeats after me and says "nite".. " nite "....so cute. The birds go to bed by 7pm to get their beauty sleep of 12 hours.
