Goodbye to Belle. She was Nitro's girlfriend from Christmas Eve until this morning. Hopefully she will be having Nitro's babies in June. Bye Belle we will miss your sweet kisses.
We have been so busy checking Sammi every little bit for her going into labor that we got a very nice surprise this afternoon. Sonya, one of our new goats we got from Rosie delivered a buckling. We thought she was due around the first of March even though Rosie said the way her bag was filling up she might kid the end of the month. Well, she kidded in the middle of her pasture. Our neighbor just happened to be looking out the door and see it happen. Sonya being a first time mom did perfect. She is resting in her stall after having a nice bucket of warm molasses water and extra grain and hay. The baby is inside for the night. I couldn't resist. He nursed Sonya several times and is drinking great. He was cold and shaking so I had to be grandma and put a sweater on him and bring him inside. He likes drinking from his baby bottle too so we will let him nurse and drink from the bottle. I will take him back out to Sonya in the morning. We let her bond with him for a couple of hours but she is resting now and I am spoiling the baby. He weighed 4 lbs. 10 oz. Haven't named him yet.... anyone got any ideals?

Oh, a nice surprise!!! He's so cute! How wonderful that you brought him inside to spoil and keep warm, and Mom can rest. I'll have to think about the name thing.
Hope Nitro isn't too sad without his female companion!!
Aww, so little and sweet and cute!
I choose "Janus":
In Roman mythology, Janus was the god of gates, doors, doorways, beginnings, and endings. His most apparent remnants in modern culture are his namesakes, the month of January and the caretaker of doors and halls: Janitor.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Now, I don't associate him with doors or janitors, LOL. I just think it is fitting for his January birthday.
How encouraging, to see new life in the midst of the season of death. Our planet is resilient
oh yay! i'm so glad the baby is healthy! and how cute he is!! i would name him brucie or riley. :)
A new baby..a nice surprise! Congrats, Peggy! He is so cute!!
Hugs,
Hope
Hi Peggy.
My your family has grown since my last visit.
Stay Well Peg
Peggy, lots of boy goats and no girls? is there a reason for this?
congratulations on the new addition !!
he was born Australia day !!
you could always call him Aussie :)
What a sweet face!
--My family have been thinking about taking on a small number of goats out on the ranch. Your blog has provided much inspiration for me. I shall pass these sentiments on.
Cheers.
Oh how precious.....
I love Nancy's "Janu"s idea - so cool with the birthday, and a great name with a great story. I was also thinking "Molasses," because of his coloring and the treat for his Mom. Maybe "Janus Molasses?"
Well, he's cute as a button, that's for sure! I've nabbed some of the photos and done my Happy Sunday post around this. I'm directing everyone here for their baby goat fix.
Let's hope Didi does better for you and gives you some doelings! But it's Sonya's first time, so she's still practicing. Hugs!
A lovely little goat. For a first it is nice to have a single. Twins next time.
