Friday Around the Homestead

(photo of soap shop)
Evening is here. The animals are settled down for the night. Chores are done for the day. I can now relax and enjoy visiting my blog friends and neighbors. Its so relaxing and pleasant popping in to see how your day went and what different things you have been up to. Friday around Hidden Haven was a little more busy than normal. Doing morning chores found that the heat and humidity had already found us for the day. I am so looking forward to fall and winter. After straining the milk and tidying up the house I hit the soap shop. I had 2 local deliveries to get out today and I so want to build up my inventory. Got the orders together and headed out to face the traffic. It was payday for the military so the roads and stores were packed. I delivered soap at Lake Rim Feed Store and purchased a quart of local honey. Delivered soap order at Gillis Farm and purchased 2 big rolls of hay. Came home and moved the little bit of hay we had left so the hired hand could pick up the hay after evening chores. Got a call from Lake Rim within 2 hours of my delivery to them. They had already sold over half the soaps and want another 50 bars right away. Gillis Farms needs more candles. I worked in the soap shop for awhile this evening and will be back out there in the morning. Had neighbor kids wanting to play with the goats. Found one of them riding one and the other one letting some of the goats out of the pen so sent the kids home. Am sure I am the mean old goat lady to the neighborhood but I do not let anyone mistreat or tease the goats. I actually got the desk all cleaned up! Bills were paid, paperwork done and filed. Goat records caught up. That was a big weight off my shoulders. I even read a couple of magazines that have been sitting on the desk for weeks. Laundry is all folded and put away. Had my shower and now I am going to settle down with a book I have been trying to finish all summer. Usually it takes me about 2 days to read a book. I am way behind in my reading. I cleaned off the back porch and started a little fall decorating. After a morning in the soap shop I hope to finish the fall decorating. I also want to finish picking my green beans so I can pull up the plants and plant more for a fall garden. Life may be busy here at the homestead but its a life I am blessed to have. I am also blessed I have a husband that works hard so I can have this life. Hopefully one day soon he will be home fulltime to enjoy it too.

What a nice post Peggy! Your busy but cozy homestead. I don't blame you for sending the kids home. Riding a goat...geesh! I'll bet they (goats) were glad to see you coming to rescue them.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

As always I don't believe that it would be possible for me to keep up with you..You are the busiest woman but then again that is good!! You can be the other way and that is not good either. Hopefully fall will be here for you soon. Not for quite a while here.

Hi Peggy, so good to see you again also!! I lost track of you somewhere last fall. Tried typing in what I thought the addy was but took me to some strange list instead...LOL
The Homestead and the goatie gals are looking wonderful! And it's time for pumpkins and colored leaves again. I think of you every time I smell your lovely soaps!
Big hugs, Finn

Which goat did they ride?
Watch that goat very carefully.
Their spines are very week and they can't take much weight.

A pack goat must have the stuff distributed very carefully and they need to be big strong goats too.

Kids don't know that though. They think anything with four legs is to ride.

As always you put a smile on my face. And thank you for the kind words. You are too kind. Hope the goats are okay.It would be nice if some people watched their children as well as you look after your goats. I have the same thing here.

I really enjoyed reading your post...like looking for a brief moment into a window and seeing your life! I have some goats, too...and it does seem like we have to protect them from so much...even children at times. Although your life seems so busy, it also appears to be full of the things you love...that is a blessing!

Ok, reminding me I'm in need of some more soap. On my way to your shop, hoping to find Ms. Diva's private label. xo

You seem to have everything undercontrol. You may even find a little time to read. After a hectic summer, when you seemed to be just staying ahead of things, I am glad you seem to be able to catch your breath.

Just in time to face the possible hurricane, or tropical storm Hannah. Never a dull moment for sure.
