Changing to Fall Time

We usually feed and milk between 6 and 6:30AM each morning. That was great during the summer because it was daylight. Now its still dark at that time and its not as easy to do. We decided to change to 7AM and every animal on the homestead protested. You would think we had starved them to death because they had to wait a little for breakfast. This reminded me of the trouble I had last year with time change. It took the goats forever to get use to it. If you don't remember the story and want a good laugh you can click HERE. I can't believe that Frosty Dan and Brown Robyn have grown so much since then and are daddies themselves. Anyway I am sure I am in for a long adjusting time with the animals. If I don't post please check on me as the goats will probably have taken me hostage. LOL Have a blessed weekend.

Hi, What fall scents did you make?

The dairy farmers hated Daylight saving as the cows got really upset.
I dont blame the animals for becoming confused.

Well you know they are like all of us. We get used to EATING at the same time..why should they be any different. They don't realize that it is dark..their tummys are just growling!!
I will keep checking on you. I would think it would be awful to be captured by goats..smile. Diva would not do that to her mommy!!

Morning Peggy!
What I do here is milk at 8:00 am because it is always light then year round. and then in the PM we milk when the sun is getting ready to go behind the hill to the west. That is between 7 and 7:30 right now. Depending on whether it is cloudy or not.
That way it is such a gradual change that the goats don't even notice and that is also when they really want to come in from pasture.
Just before sunset.
Mine don't like to be gotten up in the dark. We do this only when we want to go somewhere for the day and need to leave early.
Like the other day I had a dr appt in Joplin at 8.

Oh, this post was such fun. I had to laugh...I have some nubians and they are quite loud when they want their dinner or breakfast! And I always swear they are wearing watches because I can set mine by the sounds of their voices! We recently got two new kids and they scream what suspiciously sounds like "Maaaaaaaa" at exactly the same time every morning and afternoon! I dread when we changed the clocks, it take a month for them to realize it! I just love your posts!

Yep, I know what you mean! Our goats tell us all the time that they're starving even when they have just been fed, LOL. I am glad I'm not milking now.

We do the same thing every year and there's always much protesting :)

This year i'm trying to actually force myself to sleep a little later as well. but the ducks wake me at around 4:30 am every morning with their wild quacking.

I hope you're enjoying the cooler weather, I'm loving it :)

I absolutely LOVE the original story. My husband and I are buying 8 acres and plan to have goats. I am so glad I have discovered your blog.

*snort* You better give us a list of their favorite treats so that we can come up with the ransom!
