A very windy crazy evening. We had wind gusts up to 60mph! Our power was out for several hours. We have limbs down all around the yard and even one down across the driveway. I enjoyed the evening with light from the oil lamps and a nice warm fire. The woodstove kept my tea kettle ready for cups of tea throughout the evening. I had made a chicken and dressing casserole earlier in the day and made a crockpot mac n cheese recipe so I had supper which I warmed on the woodstove. My evening was quiet and relaxing while neighbors had no heat, lights or a way to cook their dinner. I love our simple lifestyle! The only thing was I couldn't get on the computer but I had the newspaper to read and also caught up on a devotional book I am reading. Sorted through all the catalogs and magazines to toss, keep or give away. I took the flashlight and checked on the animals. They were all snuggled down for the night. Diva's due date is the 10th and she has lost her "plug" and her ligaments are thinning. She seems to be right on schedule but wouldn't mind if she delivers a day or two early. Can you tell I am impatient?? LOL Well with the power back on I am going to turn off everything and head to bed. Have a great evening!

We had heavy rain this a.m., some sun in the afternoon and then strong winds this evening! I am thankful that you had your supper cooked and a way to warm it and I'm glad you had plenty to read during the power outage. Give Diva my best!

We are having horrible weather here, So far we have been lucky! The girl had soccer tonight so I had to take her aoub 20 mins away and on the way back home we saw two accidents the first one was not to bad the other was fatal, it shook The boy up as he just got his first car.

Peggy, Sorry to hear about your high winds.. We had TONS and TONS of rain. Now they are saying it may snow tonight and tomorrow. SURE!!! I'll believe it when I see it!!! ha...
Yes, the simple lifestyle is nice.. Glad you had some dinner, was warm --and caught up on some reading. Life is good!!!!!

We got 4 inches of snow while we slept today. Power stayed on. I know what you mean about being able to keep warm and cook. As long as you can do those two things life is ok! Take care and keep dry.

That is what being prepared is all about. I bet you can't wait to have a baby to smooch. and downed limbs (if they don't damage anything) mean free firewood.
We lose power a lot too and I love those evenings by candlelight. We have a generator but I can't stand the noise and only have it on for short periods if we need water from the well or if the fridge and freezer have been off for too long.

You are so lucky to have that woodstove. I have been wanting a gas stove for some time...one of those that will heat the house when the power is off. Maybe by the end of this year. They are quite expensive, but I hate being without heat. Food I can manage but heat is something I want to enjoy.

You may not have had power, but that sounds like the best evening of food and relaxation ever. Glad you had such a nice night! And best wishes for goat babies.
My Mother got the "hippi itch" in the 70's and moved us to a small ferry serviced island where we built a home. We had no power for almost a year and even when the house was completed (enough to live in) we heated and cooked ONLY with wood stoves.
To this day I don't worry if the power goes out, been there done that :)

Come On DIVA! We are all waiting, of course, not like you. Those last days are just so long. Walk alot, Honey, it helps. If things get too bad call Mom, she is right there ready and waiting.

Two years ago we had a huge ice storm. It devastated eveyones trees. We had no power for 6 days and one of my sisters who lives in Springfield was with out power for a month! We have two fireplaces in our home and a gas cook stove so we did not suffer. The only down side was water. My son drove to a friends house for water each day. We had some of the winters coldest temps in our region durin' this time(naturally). Schools were set up as emergency centers. We called people and invited 'em over. Everyone had to pull together to survive.
You know what, I liked it, I really did. It was so peaceful, other than the snappin' of the trees breakin', and everything slowed down. I don't know if I would want to live that way all the time but it makes me wonder.....
