Sonya's Unforgettable Night

I went out at 10pm to check everyone before laying down and found Sonya in labor. I went ahead and checked on everyone else to make sure they were warm and okay. Grabbed the birthing kit, diaper bag, a heavier coat, a blanket and headed back to the maternity house. I wrapped up in the blanket and just sat back in the corner. Contractions weren't that close so I waited. I had to laugh as I watched DiDi and Sonya. They are like sisters and have to stay together no matter what. When I would check Sonya to see how things were going DiDi would stick her head around to watch. She would then look at me as if she was waiting for me to tell her how things were moving along. I just sat and took pictures of DiDi being Sonya's Lamaze coach. DiDi did get kinda tired a couple times and snoozed a little. When Sonya got into the heavy labor and nothing was happening I gloved up and checked. I knew then we were in big trouble. But God was watching over us and she and the babies are doing well. I didn't take any photos during that terrifying delivery and only a few afterwards. Will take more later today. The kids are still very tired from the delivery. The boys only stand up for a few seconds then fall down. The girl will stand for a while and walk a little. Each time they nurse you can see them getting stronger. I have 2 heat lights out there and they are in their sweaters. They also have a blanket with a hot water bottle keeping them warm. I put my hair dryer on low and warmed them up after they nursed. They snuggled down and went right to sleep. I will take better photos once they rest up. I did take the sweater off the second buckling so you could see him better. The picture still didn't show his beautiful markings very well. I will get a better one once his legs are stronger. Now I have a few things to do then I am taking a nap. I hope DiDi will wait a day or two so it will warm up and I can get the birthing kit restocked.

They are gorgeous! I am so glad to hear them and their beautiful mother is OK. I can imagine the frustration you must have felt when you were helping, but you sure did a good job, they are very lucky to have you as an owner. I just love the pictures of Didi with her, sister goats and mother/daughter pairs can really be bonded and close. That is the case in my herd too. If you catch them sleeping you can tell whose mother is whose, and who is family to each other, even with goats that are several years old, because they sleep in family groups together.

I am so impressed, I do not know if I would know what to do if there was trouble in the birth canal.

Two years ago we had trouble with a cow, but Terry got it turned and had helped the little girl out by the time I got there. I was sort of glad, but I would have done whatever I needed too.

That baby is beautiful, heck they all are.

Peggy,

I'm sorry that Sonya had such a difficult time birthing. You must be exhausted.

Praise God for prayers answered. I love the little buckling. Wish I had a place for one just like him. He's a darling.

Keeping you, the goats and kids in my prayers. You get some rest before more kids are welcomed into your world.

Blessings,
Mary

Oh My Gosh, Thank you for sharing such precious moments. How special that Didi comforted her sister. Do you make the sweaters for the babies? I have noticed here locally that many babies are showing up in the pastures. You are such a good caretaker with the blowdryer, blankets and hot water bottle. Bless you!

Oh Peggy, I am just now having my first chance to read everyone's blog (I was away last week on business). My heart goes out to you. I hope by the time you read my message you are rested as well as the mom and babies! Thank Goodness you were there for her, I think God meant for her to be on the Haven to strengthen you and her.
Congrads again on the babies.

Just a thought on tangled babies...I didn't learn this until about 8 years of raising goats and sheep. If you make sure your critters get plenty of excersise, you rairly get tangled twins (or triplets:). We have been careful not to close up to early the last several years and have had much smoother kiddings.

You probably all ready know that, but I sure whish we could have heard it sooner. It's a very stressful thing to sort out babies inside their mom when they want to come out!

Thanks,
Bethany-
