John Henry Jr.

Howdy, My name is John Henry Jr. but my human mom calls me pretty boy. I am sure you can see why. I am a handsome feller if I do say so myself. I am one of the lucky few feathered critters that was born and raised right here on the homestead.

My dad John Henry(he is the red rooster in the second photo) and my real mom Caroline (yes that is a picture of me sleeping next to my mom. I am only a teenager and am afraid of the dark) came here from a chick hatchery in February 2005. My human mom raised them from chicks but they weren't born here like me. I am also one of the few feathered critters around here that has several moms. My real mom had the egg, my birth mom (Killer) hatched and raised me and my human mom feeds me and makes me behave. My human mom laughs at me and tells everyone what I do to get chicks. Its not funny to me! My dad and Uncle Elvis don't like it if I try to hit on any of their ladies. They chase me and try to bite me. I really wanted to be with the ladies of the coop so had to think of a way. After watching them for a few days I decided to sit in the laying box and when a hen tried to get in to lay a egg I would jump out and get her! Then while she went on in to lay her egg I would hide behind the laying box so I could go back in a wait on the next lady of the coop. My human mom was going to get pictures of me doing this but it started raining this afternoon. She says she will catch me on camera tomorrow but I won't make it easy for her! She was surprised to see I grew up to be a rooster. She had given away all my rooster brothers when they young and kept me and my sisters thinking I was a girl. I think she needs to take those glasses off the top of her head and put them over her eyes!

Nice chickens. Are those barred plymouth rock roosters? They remind me of them.

I like your blog a log.

Love your photos. I can remember chickens like these roaming free when I was growing up on the farm. Now that I take the grandsons to a farm not far from here, I see the free-roaming chickens once again.

Thanks for sharing.
