We are very fortunate to have our very own weather reporter here at Hidden Haven. Believe it or not this guy works for chicken feed. Our weatherman is Fred our bourbon red turkey. Each night we look to see if he is roosting on top of the chicken house or inside. If he is out then its not going to be too cold nor is it going to rain. If he is inside we know we are getting rain or cold weather during the night. Last night the TV weatherman called for us to have rain but Fred was roosting outside. We got no rain. Tonight the TV weatherman said our rain would come tomorrow but Fred is roosting inside. Wanna bet we have rain tonight? I just love having my very own weatherman! This photo was taken last night when the TV weatherman was calling for rain. Fred was enjoying the roof of the chicken house till I woke him up taking his picture.

That's amazing! You may have to keep records of when Fred is right and the weatherman is wrong!
send him here, I am always wanting to know the real forcast;)
I guess man is not so smart as he thinks he is. Let us know if it rains.
Hi Peggy,
We have wild turkeys here.
I enjoy living the old fashion ways. :o)
Hope you have a Blessed day!Lib
Animals always know somehow!! Our son's cat, Boots, that he just lost used to run wildly right before an earthquake would hit there in California. Jon always knew that something was coming because Boots always knew about it first. I really believe that you can count on your big turkey...Sandy
I get so very aggravated with the television weather because they are mostly incorrect. I think they should set up a direct line with Fred.
Take care,
Hi Peggy,
That is so cool to have Fred predict the weather!! (I love his name too!) My mother use to watch the animals and and I remember her saying we were going to have bad weather cause the cows were gathering in close to the fence or the barn. Never failed either!
Love and Hugs,
Hope
He's kind of a cute weatherman too! Well I would think so, if I was a chicken anyway! hehe I remember my mom talking about the rooster they had on the farm while she was growing up and how they could always tell the weather forecast with it and they never needed a wake up alarm either! lol
Loved your previous post as well, sis...Frosty Dan does a great reporting job! hehe I always enjoy seeing new pictures of the gang!! xox
Hi Peggy, I think Fred the turkey is a genius...My husbands name is Fred , but he can't predict the weather.LOL......Have a good night.
Hugs, baba
I have a Blogaholic Award for you on my blog. If you are guilty just come pick it up! You will find it under the De-Lurking post for today. Somehow blogger posted it underneath even though I did this post last. But you'll find it!
That is so neat! I would place my bet on Freds forcast!
I just love how all the animals have there very own personalities, I think that is what make the homestead so much fun!
Have a great night!
Annie
hmm I wonder what he will do on your groundhog day.... I cannot wait to see how you dress him up for Thanksgiving!
I have been away for a few days at the seaside and am just getting back to commenting xoxo
That is just the kind of weatherman to have around, oh wait, that should be weather-turkey : )
Blessings and much love
Jeanne
We humans think we are so sophisticated, we have all of the answers. We are so removed from our animal instincts that we really don't know much. Thanks for introducing us to Fred:)
Rhonda
I will gladly take the word of a critter any day as to what the weather is going to be than that of a human. Makes you wonder why they don't just go out and buy a turkey to forcast the weather for them instead of paying the salary of a meterologist.
Peggy, there is a wild turkey outside my school that chases me from my car to the door. If the door is locked I have to yell at him to keep him from touching me! I may bring some chicken feed to work to protect me!
Maybe Fred should get a job at the local television station and be come their next weather man.
