More Babies

Chicks that is. Yesterday Killer came out of hiding with 8 little ones in tow. Killer is a very devoted mom. She got her name because she doesn't peck you like a normal hen. She grabs your skin with her beak, twists and doesn't let go. She draws blood too! We gathered her and the little ones up and put them in a nice safe place.

No animals were hurt in this venture. Just humans.

Sister Sister decided since Killer was going to hatch some chicks she would too. She came strolling out from under the boat with 9 little ones. She had 4 eggs still in her nest. I put them under Dorthy that is sitting on ducks eggs for me. When I checked on them later 1 had hatched so I moved it over with Sister Sister and the others. Now she is the proud mom of 10.

Congratulations on the new chicks!! Thanks for the rabbit advice. Yes, they do live in the same hutch but are seperated by a wood wall. He can smell her and they know that they are close to eachother. Mrs. Bunny has been bumping the wood wall and knocking it over quite a bit. I wonder...I don't think she is old enough to do the deed though. I know in the wild they would have. She will be 6 months in August. Would it hurt her???

What a wonderful surprise. The song is cute. And the babies are even cuter. Just a feel good place to visit. Happy homesteading! I look forward to reading your blog each day.

Alright, you caught me,tehe. I was peaking! I do have the clothes all laid out on the bed, laundry going, vacuumed, slept, and mopped. Now I just need to pack the fun bags, get the DVD's out, get the camera...

Peggy,

I love baby chicks. Sounds like killer is aptly named. We used to have a rooster that would chase us kids and peck the back of our heads. It certainly hurt but he never drew blood.

Glad you are enjoying the beauty of creation. Your photos are lovely.

Blessings,
Mary

Amazing photos! Cute chickies!

And Killer...um...too funny...until she goes after you for the pinch I suppose. haha

Is she a Speckled Sussex? We have two and they are my favorite.

We tried to get them to hatch out some eggs, but they decided one day they were done with being broody and left the next and eggs. And then the eggs mysteriously disappeared.
