Goats are creatures of routine. They want to be fed the same times every day. They want to do the same things every day. If you change from their routine you have very very unhappy goats. Since we are going into kidding season I moved Mandy, CC and Baby out of the maternity pen. I moved Sonya and DiDi into the maternity pen but they made such a LOUD fuss I moved them to Diva and Sammi's pen and moved them to the maternity pen. I didn't put Sonya and DiDi back in their pen as the sheep have gotten so comfortable they are being bullies. Sonya, DiDi, Bridie and ViVi (when she isn't in time out) are in the bigger pen and pasture area. They don't like it. No one likes where they are right now except the sheep and the bucks. As soon as they hear me go outside they all start to whine. They continue to whine the whole time I am outside. 4 of them are due to kid in January so hopefully they will settle down and start nesting. ViVi stays in lockup most of the time because she likes sneaking out and eating all the chickens feed. It is just a whinny, noisy time around the homestead. Kuma loves playing with Lady and Tramp but the minute she sees me she whines to be back in the house. I go inside and she starts playing with them again and forgets me.

I'm new at goats, so excuse the dumb question Peggy, but why do the mama's have to be moved from their familiar bedrooms/surroundings? We won't have our first kidding until May or June. It stays so cold up here in the hills, plus we don't know much, that we didn't want to have babies being born until warmer weather.
ViVi is that red and white nubian? She's a beauty. I love red animals.
I know what you mean, when we let our goats out of theor pens, you better run and hide the chicken feed.
Oh, poor little goats, sheeps and dogs. Just look at the lascivious glances those bucks are giving! I'm sorry everyone is unhappy, but I must say I really love hearing all about the goings on at Hidden Haven, and love seeing all the pictures!!
Oh Peggy, sorry to hear that your goats are annoyed with their new pens etc but I'm sure that they will soon settle in - have you told them that "a change is as good as a holiday ?" ha ha .... Our Masaai tribe here, who are goat keepers and usually have several small herds, sing to their goats & each goat knows his/her owners specific song/tune, they will come when the song is sung but only if by their owner, it is quite amazing really to see the relationship between the goats & their owners, they do the same thing here with their cattle.
Have a wonderful New Year !
Sorry to hear your goats don't like the new living arrangements. My goats don't like change either, but sometimes it is needed.
Does anyone care if YOU are happy!!!Who do you whine to???
Peggy,
The photos of all your animals are precious. I love the goats. The boys and I sure miss the farm. I guess part of life is moving on, but it sure is hard.
I'm glad you had a nice Christmas. I wish you all the best for the New Year.
Blessings,
Mary
I don't know why, but each picture you post of those sheep cracks me up. Sorry the goats are cranky about their new sigs. I guess it's good that they are only complaining when you're out there specifically. =)
It sounds very busy around your place. You just can't make everybody happy, huh?
Thats funny how the goats will let you know if they dont like something. I was driving along the interstate taking Justin back to work and in the fields along the way are so many sheep. This one batch of sheep all had babies and it was raining, one of the babies was standing right on his moms back. It was the cutest thing I ever saw. I figured he must not have liked the rain. Is that typical for the babies to do that?
What a crew! I crack up every time I read their captions. Too funny.
Hi Peggy...Sounds like you've got a small revolt going on there! I know that goats can be noisy critters. Once I was at the vet w/ my cat and it sounded like they were beating an old man in the next room. When the vet came in, he told me that a goat was the source of all that noise! Hope everyone gets adjusted soon. Happy New Year...Debbie
