Sunday Sunshine

No rain in the forecast today. Lots of sunshine means raking and mucking the pens and stalls before the goats go on strike. Morning chores are done and William is cooking breakfast. After breakfast we will spend the day catching up on outside chores we couldn't do because of rain.

Last night I had to do Earth Hour a little different. William was in the middle of a repair and needed the lights on. I turned off everything but the lights he needed and went to bed. I was going to read by oil lamp but decided to just lay in the dark and listen to the nighttime sounds. That didn't last long because I fell asleep!

I am hoping after we get the pens cleaned and rabbit cages moved around we will have time to set out my blueberry bushes. They are nice big bushes I purchased off Craigs list over a month ago but just got them yesterday.

Two of the neighborhood kids came down early this morning. They wanted to help with morning chores. William is teaching them how to milk the goats. They spend most of their free time here around the animals instead of home playing video games like their siblings. I hope they continue to enjoy being outside working and playing with the animals. All but the sheep and bunnies have gotten use to them.

Well I am being called to breakfast. Have a blessed Sunday and I hope the sun is shining in your neck of the woods!

the photo was taken last week from the pickup as we were heading to get hay for the goats.

I did not know about turning the lights out...I am really out of the news loop as I hate to fill my head with all the anger/hate/hopelessness/fear that is filling the TV news these day. I can't fix the world but I can keep it out of my head.

Such a pretty time of year Peggy. Still cloudy here right now, but when the sun does come out I bet things will really turn green. Glad you have some kids interested in the farm animals. The exercise and fresh air will be good for them and I know the animals will learn to love them too.

How neat that you're sharing the homestead experience with the neighbors - it's probably doing those boys a world of good!

I am so glad it is sunny in your neck of the woods. It gives me hope that the sun will shine again here some day.... maybe soon.

Yesterday after the rain stopped I went out and weeded my strawberry bed. I was a muddy mess afterwards, but I was so glad to get out of the house that I didn't care.

I think it is wonderful that the neighbor children want to come and help take care of the animals:-) My son will pick farm chores over TV anytime... thank goodness.

It's windy and chilly here today after the rain last night. We're still getting a little drizzle off and on. Tomorrow is going to warm back up though.

I'll bet that breakfast was good!

It's wonderful that the kids want to be around the animals instead of inside! Smart kids there!

So nice to read about your visitor from Maine! I'm sure she enjoyed seeing all your critters, and her place does sound delightful!

Hmmmm...where's MY breakfast???? I had to make do with a stale bran muffin! lol Glad you're finally getting sunshine, sis, it hasn't found its way here yet. Been cloudy the last 4 days and today we're getting freezing rain so there's ice everywhere. I am SO ready for Spring to arrive here!!!! How wonderful that your neighbour's boys love to come over to help and as you say, it's so much better for them to be out like that than sitting in front of the tv or video games!! Love ya sis. xoxo

My dear homesteading friend, the sights and now sounds of this your blog draws me back to a time as a child I could run in a paddock and find nothing but nature and farmyard friends to fill my days.

Your family all look well! and I hope you re too.

Well after a day of winter yesterday, it is warm and sunny here today. Thank goodness. I got all the grass bags out by the road for any who want them for their compost. Got the trash out and everything burnable on the burn pile. Burn ban is finally lifted. now if the wind will stop. Hey I bet those kids will be a big help soon.

Glad you got some sunny weather! The snow is melting here and creating quite a bit of mud around.

You make me think of my brief passage though North Carolina a few years ago with Veronica. I was delighted with the wisteria and the tulip trees. I still have some pictures on my computer of that time in spite of computer crashed which have wiped off others.

We pick to low bush wild blueberries that are abundant here.
Do you do anything to make the soil around yours more acidic.

We are waiting for the sunshine. Yesterday, we had rain and a little snow overnight. The melt is on but it seems so slow.

we're finally seeing a little sunshine today, been raining, and raining. I know, when I lay down to listen to the silence, I usually fall asleep fairly quickly.
