Still Here

Just been so busy I haven't taken time to post. William STILL waiting on his truck so is doing odd jobs to bring in a little money. He works all day building fences, tilling gardens, cutting trees down, etc so comes home tired with a sore back. I am trying to get all the animal pens and shelters cleaned out to keep the fly problem down. Also trying to keep too many hens from sitting on eggs. This year we are over run with baby chicks and now all the hens are wanting to set. A friend gave me some green beans, plums, corn and a ton of oranges so am trying to cook, preserve, etc before they all go bad. Mandy (dwarf goat) is very happy at her new home though she is giving Pickles a hard time. Baby and Tiny Tina will be going to their new home tomorrow. Rowdy will only have 5 baby goats to guard so am sure he will be upset for a little bit. Wild Thing is doing fantastic. He is so much smaller than the other bunnies but is running around, eating and drinking. Momma seems to want a break from them but its not time to wean them yet. I am way behind in making soaps but waiting for a few supplies to come in so I can finish them. I am also going to be setting up at a craft fair next Saturday. Its at the same little wonderful church I went to last fall so am excited about that. I just need to get things ready for that. The gardens have really taken off growing and keeping me busy. William gave up his annual camping trip with grandson and boy scouts this year and I am going to miss the family reunion. Watching every penny till his truck is back up and running. Some people can write beautiful fairy tales about homesteading but its hard, long hours, no days off, poor pay, broken equipment, back breaking work. Lots of things go wrong but working to fix them and enjoying milking the goats, gathering fresh eggs, watching the animal babies run and play is worth every minute. Some friends have a dream homestead in their mind. How they want their home and land to look. How many and how well behaved their animals are going to be. How big and beautiful their gardens are going to be. Those are wonderful dreams but they don't realize the hard work involved to make those dreams come true. Believe me there is no fairy tale life here but there is a blessed one! Happy Memorial Day everyone.

Happy Memorial Day to you and William, Peggy. I wish you a lot of success at the church's craft fair. I hope you have a safe weekend and I hope Rowdy adjusts to a smaller group!

Peggy, I truly admire you---and know how hard it must be for you and William. I'm sure there are days when the day runs out before you finish your work! I'll admit that I couldn't do it. I used to have alot of energy but these days, I just poop out faster than I want to.

I hope William can get his truck fixed soon. I'm sure this is hard for him also. Lots of prayers coming your way.

Hope you can take a break and enjoy the holiday just a little.
Hugs,
Betsy

You are always so busy. I hope William get back on the road soon. He could use the rest;) I imagine you could too.
Do you sell your extra chicks. I wish I had some. I need to get my chickens to sit. I have thought a couple had started but the abandoned the nest.

Your fly problem interests me. Have you ever raised Muscovy ducks? They eat lots of flies and are often kept in livestock barns to help keep down the flies.

I have a "Stinky Fly Trap", which works well.

Lots going on at your place! It is a lot of work. But personally, if you have family and you are all together, there is no better place to be. :)

I am having to put off my soap making until later in the year. Just too busy right now.

Your soaps are WONDERFUL! I hope you continue to stay busy with orders (I'm selfish and want to keep you in business). Can't wait to order some for the holidays.
Happy Memorial Day! :o)

I hope things get better for you all soon. My escape from all the work and stresses are my nature/herb walks , enjoying nature relaxes me and it's free. Homesteading is very hard work and can be overwhelming when there's so much to be done , yet it's so rewarding in the end.

Happy Memorial Day !!

You sound really busy and I so understand that posting on your blog is a part of your life, not your whole life. I love to read all about your farm life but I also know we all need breaks from blogging.

Hi
We just started learning how to do a garden and we wanted to start small. So my Husband got on craigslist and found William.
So, I wanted to stop by and give a big thanks to William for tilling our small garden for us. He came late after a hard days work with other folks and he did not finish til about 9:30pm. I felt so bad, because I could see that his back hurt him.
William did a great job. We will definitely use his services again if/when needed and will refer others to him. I will be putting your blog link on all my blogs
Thanks William, you are greatly appreciated.

You are so right about the amount of work involved. I hadn't realized how busy summertime would be for us this year! We're trying to get everything organized here, and it's keeping us busier than we thought possible. I've hardly updated my blog at all this month. It's worth it, though. My two year old has been coming out with me every morning to milk and feed the goats. It makes the chores go a little slower, but it's worth every extra minute for the excitement he shares. And nothing seems more refreshing at the end of a long day than a cool shower with chocolate mint goat soap!

I've said it before and I know I'll say it again, I don't know how you do it!!!
I have a hard enough time just taking care of four dogs and our home and bush lot, I couldn't do what you do ever and I admire you so much for keeping going through all the hardships you endure...

I wish I had a semi I could send you, darn it! You are such an inspiration to all of us, and a God Send to all of the animals out there.
