Around The Homestead.

Nice rain, heavy rain, hail, winds, and sunshine. That has been my weekend but did get a lot done. I was working in the herb garden this morning when it started raining but it was a nice warm rain so I just kept on working. Not even at a halfway mark of being finished but its getting there. Still have the wooden fence and gate to put up as well as the other half of the herb garden to plant and finish this side. I have lavender, pineapple sage, 2 kinds of parsley, rosemary, lemon balm on this side so far as well as my yucca plant I just didn't want to take down when I moved the garden here.
I also have this herb in the garden. I cannot for the life of me remember what it is. It came up from last year and at first I thought it was one of my lemon balms but its not. Anyone have a idea what it is?Yesterday a storm came up quickly and I had to run out and make sure the chicks were in their shelter and the 6 baby turkey we got Saturday night were in the dry. While I was chasing a baby turkey it started hailing... hard! It didn't take that little one long to decide it was a lot dryer and safer in their house. I had on rain coat and boots would still soaking wet. The ducks and geese were loving it. Especially Crackers and her 2 babies. They had just finished swimming and bathing when the storm came up.We sat out another 50 tomato plants Saturday. My back sure could feel everyone of them by the time we got home. Besides the 3 gardens we have here we are sharing a acre garden with a elderly couple. They aren't able to work in it much so that leaves most of the planting, tilling, hoeing ,etc to us. They have grown children and grandchildren that are busy with their own jobs and stuff so don't have time to garden. They do have time to come visit their parents and get the fresh, canned and frozen veggies though. The parents enjoy putting it up for their family so that's a blessing for them. I hope to have a lot canned and frozen veggies this winter from all the work as well as selling some of the fresh veggies to our friends for their produce stand. Have a fence to build for the blueberry patch, a fence to work on for the herb garden and more things to plant today. Hope your day is busy and blessed!

Hey girl...as to your herb, it *does* look like Lemon Balm...I agree. Wonder what it is!??!? Something snuck in, eh?

Let us know when you find out.

Looks like mint to me. Am I right in assuming you have moved back to Hidden Haven permanently?

I so want to be there and help take care of the animals and birds!!
To have 50 tomato plants would be heaven on earth to me, as it is we can barely grow them on our deck because we are surrounded my trees so no sun!!!

Looks like catnip. I thought I remember a blog about catnip from last year. If Trouble and friends start acting weird.....

I am of no use to you when it comes to what plant is what. I still don't even know what is a herb and what is a weed. I needed to have the neighbor's mom come over and tell me. I would so starve as a farmer!

Me again!! I meant to say 'many' trees, not 'my' trees!!!

Hi Peggy ~ We were blessed with the much needed rain too. I hope my herbs will take growth now , it's been so dry since I planted them , they haven't grown at all , even with watering every other day.
I think that herb maybe catnip , I planted seeds one year and it didn't come up until the next year , but it comes back every year now.
As always , enjoyed reading about the critters at " Hidden Haven Homestead ".

~ Be Blessed ~

I finally replanted my herb garden that I let go several years ago. I am so eager to see the results, but it will take a bit.

My new fav is choclate mint.

Hi Peggy, Hail and rain???? Wooooo---we NEED some rain. Haven't had any in awhile. We're having to water our yard/plants now that it's gotten so hot.

The leaves on your herb look like spearmint to me.... Does it have a strong mint smell???? If so --that is what it is. We use it in our iced tea.

Hugs,
Betsy
