Fred and Tessa our Bourbon Red Turkey's have been trying for 2 years to have babies. Fred did his job and Tessa patiently sat on her eggs each time. The only problem is she picked places for her nest that flooded. This spring she picked a place up off the ground but none of the eggs hatched. I felt sorry for her when she kept sitting on her nest and gave her 2 chicken eggs. She hatched those and was a good mommy to them while still laying and sitting on eggs. One of the chicks would sit with her on the nest. Well finally yesterday all her love and patience paid off! Fred and Tessa are the proud parents of 13.
Out of 14 eggs I think that is outstanding. Fred hasn't stopped strutting his stuff yet.
We did move Tessa and the babies to a nesting house on the ground so her babies wouldn't fall from the nesting place she picked to hatch them.
Congratulations Fred and Tessa! Couldn't have happened to a more deserving couple and don't forget to let me know when you need a break. I am always open to babysit.

You should have let me know they were expecting and I would have sent a baby gift, maybe a quilt, LOL! Congratulations to Fred & Tessa.

Fred is certainly one proud papa. Love that picture of him strutting his stuff. The babies are so little they look like little balls of fluff.
I can just see you sitting with a cold glass of tea and a book, babysitting while Fred and Tessa go for a stroll. You're such a good Granny.

I'm glad the babies have finally arrived. What happened to the little chicken babies now? Does Momma still take care of them also?

Hearing your music makes me homesick for Williamsburg, which we (all my kids and grandkids) are going to spend Thanksgiving there this year...at Christina Campbells...I don't think I can eat turkey again after seeing Fred and Tessa....:)
Congrats this season our turkey hens haven't had as good of luck as last season. That's okay we did manage to get enough for us to raise up for butcher. We just got a Burbon Red Tom, named him Rig( short for Riggaletto) now we need to find him a red hen.

I am thinking of getting a couple of turkeys later this year.
We had a pair of bronze turkeys years ago when the boys were small. They were huge. One of the neighbors son who was 4 years old came to visit. When he saw the turkeys he yelled, "Darn! What a chicken!" I still think of that and his expression every time I see a turkey.lol..
