Curb Shopping

With so many things going on around here I haven't had a change to hit any yardsales. I have though found some neat things on the side of the curb that I was able to grab before the trashman arrived. We were on our way home from a lawncare customer when I saw this big long shelf. It measured 12 feet long! I didn't need one that long but I had been wanting a shelf in a certain spot for a couple of months. Thought about making one when I got the chance but all I had to do was cut this one down to 10 feet and it worked perfectly. Didn't cost me a penny and I have a small shelf from the cut that I can use somewhere else. We were doing another customers yard while she was cleaning out her garage. She put this by the curb and I ask if I could have it. I saw it being used on another blog and wanted to make my own. GrannyJ maybe you can help me out with who's blog it was on. I remember seeing it on one of your friends blogs but can't find it again. Anyway this cost zero dollars as I already had the glasses and corkscrew. I have a few other things I have found that I am painting and using around the homestead. I will save those for later.

The heat and humidity is still with us. We are doing our best to keep the animals as cool as possible and plenty of fresh cold water to drink. I keep reminding myself that fall is right around the corner and hopefully will bring cooler weather.

William worked on redoing a lady's flowerbeds today and brought home 8 Russian sage bushes and some other flowers she didn't want. We hope to set them out tonight after it cools down a little. I have the spots all ready for them so its shouldn't take long.

Some of you wonderful bloggers have been posting some yummy recipes. I have been trying them all and I must say they are wonderful. Never mind I have to work outside a extra hour or two so I can sweat off the pounds. Thank you for giving me some new things to try. The gardens are almost dried up. I am still getting tomatoes, cucumbers, watermelon, beans, and carrots. I am trying to get things pulled up so we can till and plant our fall gardens. I sure hope fall brings more rain than we got this summer.

Tramp is doing pretty good. He has some days were he just lays in front of Lady's doghouse and looks so sad but those days are getting further apart. He and Daniel the rooster are best buds and hang out together. Its still sad going out to feed and not having Lady meet me at her gate barking for her treat but I too am less sad each day and enjoying spending time with the animals. They have a way that just brings peace and joy when you are with them.

Grands are all excited about school starting soon. With so much going on in their lives they didn't make it down for a visit this summer. We are shooting for Christmas break having  all of them for a few days. William's grandson is coming Sunday for a week. I haven't seen him in awhile but he always enjoyed helping with the animals and going fishing with his PopPop. I taught him how to ride a bike years ago so maybe he and I can take a few bike rides while he is here.

Each day brings something different to keep me busy but each day also brings many blessings. I hope your days are filled with blessings too!

Peggy I love your curbside finds. Can you imagine what it would have cost to make that twelve foot long shelf? Lumber is so expensive to buy that it's great when you can find it curbside. Even better is that you have the remainder of the shelf to use elsewhere.

The rake wineglass holder was from Prior's blog. I think she has that picture on her button for linking to her Prior Lives posts. Yours looks great.

Glad to hear that Tramp is still doing well.

Ahhh Peggy, your life is (sounds) so busy and yet so peaceful. The way you write I can feel you going out to the animals and hear you talking to them. You really should write, you would be so good at it...

Hi Peggy, I too am really tired of the heat and humidity --and am ready for Fall. We finally had 2 inches of rain today which was wonderful...

Your curb treasures are great..... You do a good job watching for bargains and great (free) deals... That is SUPER.....

Stay cool, my friend, and take care of all of those critters..

Love your curbside treasures and ideas! Way to think outside the box.

I know the heat is horrible for you and will pray for cooler temps. Today we're going to hit 93F, WaHoo! as we've only had a handful of days above 90F so far this year. Mkaes me wonder what is in store for our winter, YIKES!

Blessings to you for your day,
Kelle

The heat has been bad here in the Midwest of Indiana too. You are such an amazing woman, Peggy, that I know God has used you in so many ways in everything you do and touch. Your animal stories always puts a smile on my face and joy in my heart.
DH and I so want to stop and see you one of these days. Perhaps when we come back from Florida next Spring, we could stop and visit with you.
Hugs,
Connie
