Hard Hat Season

It's a blessing having so many big beautiful oak trees. They give a cooling canopy of shade during the summer's heat that has been really needed. Now that fall is near the leaves are falling but so are the acorns from all the these trees. Sounds like rocks hitting the roofs of the house and outbuildings around here. The noise doesn't bother me so much but getting hit in the head, shoulder or back with those acorns while doing chores is a pain! Our neighbors don't have these trees in their yards so I wonder what they think when they keep hearing us yell ouch, oh, that hurt, dang it that one got me on the top of the head?

We have been collecting and saving windows to build a green house this fall. We found some at the dump, some at curbs, and friends gave us some but we really lucked up on Craigs List. A kind gentleman listed 17 brand new windows still wrapped for free. We emailed and he called and the windows are now here waiting to be part of our greenhouse. I just love Craigs List!

Have a very blessed day!!

Wow! that was a great find! I can't wait to see the greenhouse. I know it will be a big help with the plants.

Oh yes, falling acorns do hit hard sometimes. But these big ole pears falling when I am picking pears here... now that is a lump!

Have a great day.

You can hear me saying OUCH also, Peggy. We have those acorns here also---lots of them... In fact, I raked up a ton of them last week.

Oh--how special if you get a greenhouse... That will be fabulous.... Can't wait to see it once it is finished.

Hugs,
Betsy

I've never looked at Craig's List although I've heard about it but now that I see the awesome find you found on there for free, I'm going to have to take a look:-)

I had to giggle when I read about the acorns falling on your head because the weekend we went to visit the boys and went on that hiking trail with Corey, we had to dodge the falling acorns there! lol The first one got me on the shoulder and I just about had heart failure, I thought it was a huge bug or something!! Love ya sis. xoxox

I remember green walnuts falling on our roof and on us when I was a kid!!!
Your home is decorated so pretty and looks so cozy and inviting. That's a real blessing about the windows. I know you will love having a greenhouse. Have a wonderful evening you two.

You can really find some nice things on craigs list, and some not so nice...LOL....you really lucked out...

My favorite tree is an Oak tree... My husband told me the summer before he died, that he wanted to be cremated and I should dig a hole in our back yard and plant an Oak tree over him...well needless to say, he was cremated, but buried with his dad...but you know what, about two years after he died an Oak tree popped up in our back yard....pretty crazy right... none are by our house...

Well just stopped by to see how your doing....I'm going on a three day vacation with 2 of my girls for my birthday...so I will post pictures when I get back...I've been pretty lax at posting...

Good luck with your greenhouse...I know you will make the most of it... judy

That's wonderful. A greenhouse will extend your growing season and make a nice place to start seeds.

Don't I know it! My neighbor's HUGE oak tree drops those acorns too and I feel like I need to dig a fox hole to take cover in! Sometimes I worry that they'll hit the chickens on the head and be instantly be brain-damaged.

In any event, a blessed day back at you, too.

Free windows! I never thought of Craigs list. I just got a price for 14 new windows and two storm doors in my house. . .$6200. Yikes!

I am also trying to get a new well and a new furnace.

I am trying to do this on a forgivable government loan. These loans are meant to try to help older people stay in their own home.

I cant wait to see pictures of your greenhouse when you get it built. BE sure to keep us updated. I've always wanted a greenhouse. I guess I'll live vicariously through you. :-)
