The Month Before Christmas

Twas a month before Christmas, when all round the homestead

Not a creature was stirring, cause they'd all gone to bed!

There were stockings to hang by each stall with care.

Cause Diva was sure Santa would be stopping by there!

The chickens were gathered all around on their roost.

Where a Christmas wish list was being produced.

Frosty Dan and the boys were trying to sleep,

But couldn't get over mom bringing home sheep!

When out in the yard there arose such a clatter!

They all jumped up to see what was the matter!

Away to the fence they ran in a flash,

Then stopping so sudden they all almost crashed!

The glow from the big moon up in the sky,

Was so bright it almost blinded their eye.

When what with their wandering eyes did they see?

Rounding the corner was the little goat Louie!

Visiting to wish them Merry Christmas he said.

He loved his new home though he looked overfed.

Now Diva, now Sammi, now Sonya and DiDi

Now Bossy, now Blanche, now Princess and ViVi

Go back to bed, go back to sleep

Louie came to see mommy and won't make a peep.

As dry leaves under their hoof did crunch,

They walked back to bed in one great big bunch.

While up near the house the geese were askew.

The babies, the teens, Mo, Larry and Curly too!

They were anxious for Christmas Eve to arrive.

So they could see the big sled Santa would drive.

Donald and Daffy were all settled in bed

With visions of a new pool swimming in their head.

But not Sally! She was quacking out loud.

To stay awake to see Santa she vowed.

The bunnies eyes twinkled. They all were so merry

Wishing Santa would bring them a apple, a carrot or maybe a berry!

Nickel's little mouth was drawn in a frown.

He was afraid Santa knew he had knocked Huey down!

With a bit of hay held tight in his teeth

He wondered if it would help if maybe he hung up a wreath?

Fred the turkey looking down from the roof,

Was laughing at Nickel who he thought was a goof.

Yes, Christmas Spirit came to the homestead that night.

It surrounded them all and it all felt so right.

To feel love and peace for each one and another,

Cause Christmas at Hidden Haven was blessed and like no other!

A charming poem. It reminds me of the kind of thing my mother would do. For some gathering, ie family Christmas, or party for the hospital staff etc, she would write such a poem and manage to mention everyone present in some way.

Your poem made me feel so at home during my visit to Hidden Haven Homestead and like I was right there with all the barn yard animals as they got the Christmas season rolling. Thank you.

That was cute. I was standing in line at the post office and realized that I didn't even wrap your gifts:( I was in a hurry to get them mailed and just packed them in the box. I apologize for that. The post man said it would take a week to deliver. I hope I made good choices:))
