What Day of the Week Is It Anyway

With holidays on a week day I keep thinking today is Monday. I planned my week only to realize I don't have a whole week since its already Wednesday! This year has only started and already going too fast. With Fran's stroke, hospital stay and home care I let some things slip around here. One of the things I didn't get done was having momma kitty fixed. She of course went catting around and now the proud mom of 5 kittens. I didn't fuss at her too much as it was my fault. They are very very cute and I am sure will be easy to find homes for them. I made a bed for momma kitty last week and showed it to her and told her to have her babies there. This morning she went to her bed and had her babies. And this time she is being a very devoted mom. I just need to be devoted on getting things done around here with momma kitty at the top of the list.

When putting Fran to bed tonight she stood up on her own weight before sitting on her bed. She held her head up straight most of the day today and was really tired and ready for bed when we got there.

We lucked up and found alfalfa for the goats. We are going after 34 bales tomorrow and that should carry us till spring along with the grain feed we give twice a day. The new goat shed is almost finished. It was 24F but Wayne kept right on building in the windy cold day.

I mailed out 2 soap orders today and delivered one order locally of 50 bars. Have 2 more big orders to get out and hopefully stock up my supply with my spring scents. Am behind in getting my shop revamped for spring.

We have had a fire in the stove all day and I have been so tempted to sit in the rocker, bake my feet and take a nap! I have William bagging and tagging soaps so guess I had better get back at it too.

Whatever day it is I hope yours was a great one! Have a blessed night and stay warm (or cool ) wherever you are.

Last night I was laying on the sofa watching tv when momma kitty jumped on me and dropped her kitten in my lap. I petted the kitten and then took her back to where momma kitty had had her hidden for the past week. A few minutes later momma kitty jumps back up and drops the kitten in my lap again. I am thinking maybe she is wanting a new hiding place so I make her a nice bed in a dark corner where no one can see her, put the kitten in the basket and go back to the sofa. A few minutes later the kitten is put back in my lap. I take her back to the old hiding place and a few minutes later the kitten is put back in my lap. I end up sleeping on the sofa with baby kitty and momma kitty laying on me. I had to sleep on my back all night so I wouldn't disturb them. This morning I had to get up to feed and milk so I gently moved momma and baby off me and onto a blanket on the sofa. Baby kitty has stayed there all day and if I am in the house momma kitty cries and follows me till I sit down by baby kitty. I tried to tell her I am not babysitting. She seems to want me to watch over the baby kitty or hold the baby kitty. If I hold the kitty she will go eat and walk around. Its like she knows someone is watching the baby so she can have a break. We cut firewood all day and as soon as I came inside this evening she was under my feet crying till I sat down with baby kitty. Momma kitty needs to figure out how to let the kitten sleep alone while she takes her breaks. Right now she is sitting on the sofa looking and crying at me cause I am sitting in a chair.

Guess I had better get back on the sofa and pull my time with the kitten. Momma kitty must be hungry or need to stretch her legs.

William and the young couple we hired to help us are trying to get Frosty Dan and Brown Robyn to hold still so I can change their bandages.

I moved the young bunnies into my teen chick pen since I don't have any teens at the moment. They are loving running around eating grass and playing with each other.

Momma Kitty and baby kitty are doing fine. I have found a home for baby kitty so will be taking momma kitty to be fixed as soon as baby kitty is weened. Baby Kitty is getting very fat and loving. Momma Kitty is so sweet. She jumps on me to wake me up to let her outside to potty in the middle of the night. She doesn't want to use a litter box.

Dan and Robyn had to stay overnight at the hospital. Dan went right to sleep but Robyn had a hard time so they had to give him a little extra to put him under. He started waking up in the middle of surgery so they gave him gas. What should have been a 3 or 4 hour stay now has Diva here at home crying for her babies and the babies at the hospital without their mom. The surgery went good. The horns were removed and skin pulled over and stitched. The vet just wants to make sure Robyn wakes up okay and they both are able to stand, walk, eat, drink, etc before coming home. I will call in the morning and then drive the hour and half back to pick them up when they are ready. The good thing is I got all the milk tonight! Between Diva and Sammi I got a gallon of milk, but I would much rather have the boys home and no milk. They look so lost when I had to turn them over to the vet. Everyone was having a fit over them though. All the other animals in the livestock part of the hospital were horses so the boys were a nice change for them. I don't think Dan and Robyn are going to want to go for another ride with me anytime soon.
I lost all but one of the baby kittens. I was very sad over that but talking with the vet today made me feel better. He said their body temps being low and their not getting colostrum from their mom in the first few hours made it almost impossible for them to survive. The last one is doing great and the neighbor found the mom. She is very young but when I brought her inside today and showed her the baby she hopped right in the basket and sat down with it so it could nurse. At least now it has a really good chance of making it.
On top of all the above its been a 101F. A hot muggy, miserable day but tomorrow is a new day and I know it will bring many blessings!

Just call me Catwoman. Yesterday afternoon my neighbor Jane brought me a newborn kitten that one of her renters had found in their driveway. I got out the heating pad and kitty nursing bottle and said I would try to take care of it. A couple of hours later the renter brings 2 more kittens she found in her yard. 9:30 last night another neighbor brings another kitten. It is a runt and very very cold. I didn't think it would make it. I got up every 3 hours and fed them. Made sure the heating pad wasn't too hot for them. They are drinking goats milk very well and sleeping when not nursing. So far all 4 are doing well. I think that a young cat had her first litter and didn't know what was happening to her so just had them as she was running down the road. No one has seen the momma but everyone is looking for her. I will take care of the newborns until they find the mom or are old enough to give away. I am NOT keeping any of them no matter how cute they are. I have 3 cats already and that is plenty!
